The Test Card Gallery

http://www.meldrum.co.uk/mhp/testcard/index.html
The BBC and ITV have over the years used a number of tuning signals, test cards and captions either for engineering purposes, or just to fill time in the days before breakfast and daytime TV. This page shows some of them, and some of the captions used in days past.

A Max Headroom in Every Terminal!

https://benbrown.com/txt/read/2026-05-01
I took my favorite video loop of Max, and extracted the frames. Then I converted each frame to ascii, and wrote the whole thing to a big array. The script just iterates through the array and prints each frame. There are no external dependencies - it is all just one big file with the data in-line.

I built a DIY security camera with Frigate, and it's easier than you think

https://www.xda-developers.com/i-built-a-diy-security-camera-with-frigate/
With their remote monitoring, motion detection, PTZ control, and data storing provisions, Network Video Recorders are a great way to turn a bunch of IP cameras into a full-fledged surveillance system. Better yet, the self-hosting landscape is chock-full of cool NVR solutions that not only let you manage your security footage, but also preserve your privacy and money while doing so. I’ve tinkered with a handful of these tools over the last couple of months, and while some may specialize in certain aspects, Frigate is ideal for building a DIY security camera system.

OBS Studio Gets A New Renderer: How OBS Adopted Metal | OBS

https://obsproject.com/blog/obs-studio-gets-a-new-renderer
Starting with OBS Studio 32.0.0 a new renderer backend based on Apple's Metal graphics API is available for users to test as an experimental alternative to the existing OpenGL backend on macOS. This marks an important step in OBS Studio's development to adapt one of the modern APIs that deliberately broke with the past to unlock better performance and efficiency gains for end users, but also require fundamental changes to how an application interacts with a GPU.

replicate/cursedsit.com: The one where we delve in. https://cursedsit.com

https://github.com/replicate/cursedsit.com/tree/main
In an era of boundless content, cursedsit.com does not resist consumption; it accelerates it. It loops forever, not to entertain, but to expose the rhythm of our own passive viewing—the trance of comfort, the ache of endlessness. Each generated frame gestures toward human creativity while simultaneously erasing it, offering an uncanny parody of meaning. It is both satire and shrine: a monument to the algorithmic sublime and to the banality it mass-produces.

8-input Video Switch

https://www.vwlowen.co.uk/radio/videoswitch2/index.htm
Instead of switching just four inputs, the new unit can switch 8 AV (composite) cameras and uses readily available transistors to do the switching in place of the potentially unreliable electro-mechanical relays. As a bonus, it is, of course, totally silent in use.

Things not to do as a presenter if you want a great talk recording | Christian Heilmann

https://christianheilmann.com/2025/08/05/things-not-to-do-as-a-presenter-if-you-want-a-great-talk-recording/?ref=sidebar
Conference organisers spend a lot of time and money on recording, hosting, transcribing and describing recordings of talks. And for you as a presenter, you do benefit from a great recording of the session. You reach a lot more viewers that way and other conference organisers do watch recordings to pick speakers for their event. You also add longevity to your session and reach people that may have picked a talk that was in parallel to yours. That’s why it is important to avoid a few things on stage if you want to benefit from all that effort. Here are some I encountered. And, yes, I also made these mistakes many times both as a presenter and as a moderator. But I learned from them.

93-year-old YouTuber back in business after being kicked off platform over porn allegation | CBC News

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/youtube-porn-allegation-academic-1.7400158
Metta Spencer, a sociologist whose online broadcasts regularly feature world leaders in the fields of peace, climate change, pandemics, famine and, ironically, cyber risks said she spent weeks trying to convince YouTube Canada that the porn clips were the result of a hacking attack, without success.

How to set up your own private RTMP server using nginx | Open Broadcaster Software

https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-set-up-your-own-private-rtmp-server-using-nginx.50/
Most people who stream enjoy using services such as Twitch.tv or Ustream to deliver video to viewers, and that works well enough. But sometimes you want some more control over your stream, or you want other people to be able to stream to you, or you want to stream to multiple places, or any number of things that requires you to have access to an actual RTMP stream from an RTMP server. This guide will cover the very basics of setting up a simple RTMP server on a Linux computer. Don't worry, it's not too complicated, but having familiarity with Linux will certainly help.

MPEG1 Video Decoder in JavaScript - PhobosLab

http://phoboslab.org/log/2013/05/mpeg1-video-decoder-in-javascript
An MPEG1 decoder sounded like a relatively simple and fun weekend project. While the real world use cases for this are of course a bit limited, I still learned a whole lot about video codecs in the process. The size of the source is just around 15kb gzipped and the performance is quite okay-ish - a 320x240 video easily plays with 30fps on the iPhone5.

R. Umar Abbasi subway photo: Google Glass, surveillance means more of this phenomenon. - Slate Magazine

Little Brother is burgeoning, too. More and more people are carrying cameras with them. Typically, these come in the form of mobile phones, but wearable cameras are growing in numbers and shrinking in size. Not too many years from now, lots of people will be wearing “heads-up” camera/display combos (such as Google Glass) that capture videos of pretty much everything they see. Unless we turn from the course we've set as a society, we'll soon arrive at a day when every square foot of every subway station—of just about every place, really—is being recorded at all times, and probably from multiple views. And all of these devices, capturing higher and higher resolution images plus audio, will be connected at high speeds to digital networks.

hitch

http://www.jeffdesom.com/hitch/
I dissected all of Hitchcock's Rear Window and stiched it back together in After Effects. I stabilized all the shots with camera movement in them. Since everything was filmed from pretty much the same angle I was able to match them into a single panoramic view of the entire backyard without any greater distortions. The order of events stays true to the movie's plot.

Sci-Fi Short XXIT Gets Big Blade Runner Look From Small Camera | Underwire | Wired.com

http://www.wired.com/underwire/2011/11/xxit
XXIT’s plot revolves around a beautiful “BioClone” from the future who travels to San Francisco to rescue the humans whose DNA she shares. The short film’s acting may be standard issue, but the visuals point toward a promising future for low-budget sci-fi. The crew shot the production on the streets of San Francisco using six handheld cameras that cost $20,000 apiece.

We ask a OPD officer why he had his name badge covered.... on Vimeo

http://vimeo.com/31568216
This how to properly engage with police when they do suspicious things. We were riding by on bikes and noticed hes hiding his name and has no badge number. SO we decided to ask him. He did not answer, we asked a ranking officer is that policy? The LT. quickly went about fixing his attitude. This is a common practice among cops at occupy's around the US .That way he/she cannot be named or referenced if he participates in police miss-conduct . Its in most police departments policies that all officers in uniform must show some form of identification. OPD does not wear badges with #'s, how do we hold anyone accountable?

Dave Farquhar's Silicon Underground - How to connect a Commodore 64 to a television

http://dfarq.homeip.net/article/20050104084808610
"What if you can't find a Commodore video cable? If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can make your own cable with parts from Radio Shack. You'll need a 5-pin DIN plug, two male RCA plugs, and two lengths of speaker wire. Shielded cable like RGU-58 would be better, but isn't totally necessary. "

camen design · Video for Everybody!

http://camendesign.com/code/video_for_everybody
"Video For Everybody is very simply a chunk of HTML code that embeds a video into a website using the HTML5 element which offers native playback in Firefox 3.5 and Safari 3 & 4 ... In other browsers that do not support , it falls back to Adobe Flash ... If Flash is not installed, QuickTime is used (which allows playback on the iPhone) ... If QuickTime is not installed then Windows Media Player is used in Internet Explorer for Windows Vista and above. ... Finally, if all else fails, a warning is issued that provides links to download the video, and links to software relevant to getting the video to play within the browser itself. ... This is all done without JavaScript and requires only two video encodes, one OGG file for Firefox 3.5, and one MP4 file for everything else (Flash / Safari / iPhone)."
