The Democrats are challenging that win-win story of American capitalism. Their contention is that the U.S. economy is failing the middle class. They argue that those at the top need to contribute “a little more” to help rebuild the American middle. Even more threateningly, they point out, as in their critique of Bain Capital, that some of the business strategies that have enriched the elite have actually hollowed out the middle.

The Bomb Buried In Obamacare Explodes Today-Hallelujah! - Forbes

http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2011/12/02/the-bomb-buried-in-obamacare-explodes-today-halleluja
This is the true ‘bomb’ contained in Obamacare and the one item that will have more impact on the future of how medical care is paid for in this country than anything we’ve seen in quite some time. Indeed, it is this aspect of the law that represents the true ‘death panel’ found in Obamacare—but not one that is going to lead to the death of American consumers. Rather, the medical loss ratio will, ultimately, lead to the death of large parts of the private, for-profit health insurance industry. ... If you believe that the end of private, for-profit health insurance is some type of nefarious step towards a socialist society, then you might want to attend church this Sunday to mourn the loss of health insurers being able to worm out of covering the bills of a cancer patient because she forgot to write down on her application that she had skin acne for three months when she was a teenager.

Obama Now Attempting To Get Each Word Of Jobs Bill Passed Individually | The Onion - America's Finest News Source

http://www.theonion.com/articles/obama-now-attempting-to-get-each-word-of-jobs-bill,26570
"This is a truly vital piece of legislation that needs to be approved in a bipartisan manner as swiftly as possible, and if that means passing it one single linguistic element at a time, then so be it," the president told reporters, claiming he and Republican lawmakers had already agreed on several synonyms that could be substituted for various controversial modifiers.

Jeff Schweitzer: Dow Hovers Near 11,000: This is Obama's Market

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-schweitzer/dow-hovers-near-11000-thi_b_545800.html
"With jaw-dropping, surreal, outrageous, unbelievable hypocrisy probably never before matched in scope and breadth, by the first week of March 2009, just over one month into the Obama presidency, Republicans were blaming Obama for the dire economic news. For eight years under Bush any bad news was Clinton's fault; just one month into Obama's presidency, Bush was innocent of all blame. We do not have a vocabulary that can capture the deep absurdity of this assault on reason."

Rachel Maddow rips apart Cheney, GOP attack machine - Daily Kos TV (beta)

http://www.dailykos.com/tv/w/002459/index.html
"Again, my friends and colleagues in the media have two choices in covering this. You can just copy down what the Republicans and Vice President Cheney are saying, and click "send," call it journalism, or you can actually fact-check those comments and put them into context. Your choice. It’s your country."

The Same Old Washington Blame Game | The White House

http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2009/12/30/same-old-washington-blame-game
"President Obama doesn’t need to beat his chest to prove it, and – unlike the last Administration – we are not at war with a tactic (“terrorism”), we at war with something that is tangible: al Qaeda and its violent extremist allies. And we will prosecute that war as long as the American people are endangered."

I smoke pot, and I like it - THE WEEK

http://www.theweek.com/article/index/94981/I_smoke_pot_and_I_like_it
"This is a profoundly necessary idea. If we’re to begin to roll back our stupid and deadly drug war, the stigma of responsible drug use has got to end, and marijuana is the best place to start. The super-savvy Barack Obama managed to turn a buck by coming out of the cannabis (and cocaine) closet in a bestselling memoir. That’s progress. But his admission came with the politicians’ caveat of regret. We’ll make real progress when solid, upstanding folk come out of the cannabis closet, heads held high."

MotherJones Blog: Obama to Bush: I Can Release Your Records. Don't Like It? Sue.

http://www.motherjones.com/mojoblog/archives/2009/01/11919_executive_order_13233_revoked_obama_bush_sue_me.html
"On his first day in office, President Obama put former president Bush on notice. His administration just released an executive order that will make it difficult for Bush to shield his White House records--and those of former Vice President Dick Cheney--from public scrutiny by invoking the doctrine of executive privilege. Shortly after taking office, Bush handed down his own executive order, amending the Presidential Records Act to give current and past presidents, along with their heirs, veto power over the release of presidential records, which are considered the property of the American people. President Obama: Living Proof that Family Values Without Religion Build Character | Friendly Atheist by Hemant Mehta

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/01/19/president-obama-living-proof-that-family-values-without-religion-build-character
"We hear so much these days about how traditional religious family values are necessary for raising moral children who can grow into accomplished adults,” said American Humanist Association Executive Director Roy Speckhardt, father of two. “But we humanists have known for a long, long time that ethical humanist values build character. The number of moral and accomplished humanists is legion. We’ve been honoring the greatest of them every year since 1953 at our annual conferences. Now Barack Obama has given us the opportunity to share this truth with those from around the country who come to our nation’s capital to share in the inauguration experience."

Why Obama Should Keep His BlackBerry - BusinessWeek

http://www.businessweek.com/the_thread/techbeat/archives/2008/11/why_obama_shoul.html?chan=top+news_top+news+index+-+temp_news+++analysis
"Obama comes into office as the first President both knowledgeable about and comfortable with the technology that runs today's world. This is actually an important and promising development and the worst thing we can do is try to force him into a technology-free cocoon in the name of security or whatever. Mr President-elect, if you want to keep that BlackBerry, please do so. Besides, we don't want a new President going through his difficult first weeks in office suffering from BlackBerry withdrawal."

Defining Bush's "Mandate"

http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2001
"Winning 51 percent of the popular vote in Tuesday's election , Bush administration officials were quick to declare that the results constitute a "mandate" for Bush's second term. This interpretation of the election caught hold in the mainstream media-- a sign perhaps that White House spin was triumphing over the actual numbers recorded on Election Day. "

Barack Obama and Joe Biden: The Change We Need | Amanda Scott's Blog: Barack in Jacksonville, FL: "Tomorrow"

http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/amandascott/gGg8Cv
"Tomorrow, you can put an end to the politics that would divide a nation just to win an election; that tries to pit region against region, city against town, Republican against Democrat; that asks us to fear at a time when we need hope. ... Tomorrow, at this defining moment in history, you can give this country the change we need. "

Palin suggests Chronicle withheld Obama remarks

Just like Troopergate, she counts on morons to just believe without question or follow-up. So tired of the exploitation of fear and willful ignorance. "Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, in a campaign appearance Sunday, criticized comments about coal technology that Sen. Barack Obama made to The Chronicle editorial board in January, and suggested that the newspaper withheld the information from the public - even though the interview has been posted on the newspaper's Web site since it was given."

Like, Socialism: Comment: The New Yorker

http://www.newyorker.com/talk/comment/2008/11/03/081103taco_talk_hertzberg
For her part, Sarah Palin, who has lately taken to calling Obama “Barack the Wealth Spreader,” seems to be something of a suspect character herself. She is, at the very least, a fellow-traveller of what might be called socialism with an Alaskan face. The state that she governs has no income or sales tax. Instead, it imposes huge levies on the oil companies that lease its oil fields. The proceeds finance the government’s activities and enable it to issue a four-figure annual check to every man, woman, and child in the state. One of the reasons Palin has been a popular governor is that she added an extra twelve hundred dollars to this year’s check, bringing the per-person total to $3,269. A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.”

GOP Pundits Question Powell's Integrity on Race | NewsOne

"The same republican party operatives that were so in love with Colin Powell that they wanted him to run against Clinton in 96 are now questioning his judgment, suggesting that a highly respected, former soldier, general, secretary of defense, chairman of the joint chiefs of staffs and secretary of state make political decisions based on race. How low can you go?"

Obama campaign rejects Palin 'terrorist' gibe - CNN.com

"She referred to an article in Saturday's New York Times about Obama's relationship with Ayers, now 63. But that article concluded that "the two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers, whom he has called 'somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8.'""

Obama: "This is exactly the time" for a debate - War Room - Salon.com

http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2008/09/24/obama_conference/index.html?source=rss
"With respect to the debates, it's my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who, in approximately 40 days, will be responsible for dealing with this mess. And I think that it is going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once"

Jonathan Freedland: The world's verdict will be harsh if the US rejects the man it yearns for | Comment is free | The Guardian

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/sep/10/uselections2008.barackobama
"Of course I know that even to mention Obama's support around the world is to hurt him. Incredibly, that large Berlin crowd damaged Obama at home, branding him the "candidate of Europe" and making him seem less of a patriotic American. But what does that say about today's America, that the world's esteem is now unwanted? If Americans reject Obama, they will be sending the clearest possible message to the rest of us - and, make no mistake, we shall hear it. "

Obama to Palin: 'Don't Mock the Constitution' | The Trail | washingtonpost.com

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/08/obama_to_palin_dont_mock_the_c.html
"The reason that you have this principle is not to be soft on terrorism. It's because that's who we are. That's what we're protecting," Obama said, his voice growing louder and the crowd rising to its feet to cheer. "Don't mock the Constitution. Don't make fun of it. Don't suggest that it's not American to abide by what the founding fathers set up. It's worked pretty well for over 200 years."

Obama and McCain Tax Proposals - washingtonpost.com

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/06/09/ST2008060900950.html
"Obama's plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy. For the approximately 147,000 families that make up the top 0.1 percent of the income scale, the difference between the two plans is stark. While McCain offers a $269,364 tax cut, Obama would raise their taxes, on average, by $701,885 - a difference of nearly $1 million."

rc3.org — The candidates on evil

http://rc3.org/2008/08/17/the-candidates-on-evil
"Warren asked both candidates the same set of questions — Obama went first but McCain didn’t get to hear Obama’s answers before he had his turn. If I had to pick one question that pretty directly illustrates the differences between these two candidates, it was Warren’s audience-submitted question on evil."

Barack Obama | Obama HQ Blogger: Barack in Lansing, MI: "We must end the age of oil in our time."

http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/stateupdates/gG5zCW
"We simply cannot pretend, as Senator McCain does, that we can drill our way out of this problem. We need a much bolder and much bigger set of solutions. We have to make a serious, nationwide commitment to developing new sources of energy and we have to do it right away. "
