Sneak Peek: Start Your Own Radio Station — Veilamp

https://veilamp.com/blog/sneak-peek-start-your-own-radio-station
Here’s the part that makes it Veilamp: there’s no central media server. Your audio streams peer-to-peer over the Veilid network, end-to-end encrypted, straight from you to your listeners. We’re not in the middle. There’s no company relay logging who tuned in, no account, no cloud bill. It’s the same private, friends-first networking that powers sharing your library — we just taught it to carry a live program.

Fun fact: the klattsch app is built on a free, MIT-licensed speech synthesis engine. The klattsch npm package is the engine under the hood, meaning you can drop this voice directly into your own games. Here’s a quick guide on how to do it, complete with examples.

Customize a massive range of sounds from pristine hi-fi clarity to haunting lo-fi textures — all in stereo. You can emulate magnetic tape, vinyl, an old radio, or a vintage telephone. Even skipping CDs, and spectral mishaps of MP3s and early digital media.

Attention K-Mart Shoppers : Free Audio : Free Download, Borrow and Streaming : Internet Archive

OK, I have to admit this this is a strange collection. In the late 1980's and early 1990's, I worked for Kmart behind the service desk and the store played specific pre-recorded cassettes issued by corporate. This was background music, or perhaps you could call it elevator music. Anyways, I saved these tapes from the trash during this period and this video shows you my extensive, odd collection.

Web Audio Modem

https://martinmelhus.com/web-audio-modem/
Lately, I've been working with a client where my development computer is not connected to the Internet. This is a huge inconvenience, as the unavailability of Google and Stack Overflow vastly impact my productivity. Only recently have I begun to grasp how much of my time is actually spent copy/pasting between Visual Studio and the browser. My office also features an Internet connected laptop and my development computer expose 3,5 mm jack sockets for audio devices. And thus my problems can be solved! Here's how I made a modem for closing the gap with Web Audio.

Kmart Week of....

This is a digitized version of an in-store cassette tape that was played within a Kmart store. See the title of the file for the month and year. I worked at Kmart between 1989 and 1999 and held onto them with the hopes that they would be of use some day. Enjoy!

DrPetter's homepage - sfxr

This is a little tool I made in connection with the 10th Ludum Dare competition held in December 2007. Its original purpose was to provide a simple means of getting basic sound effects into a game for those people who were working hard to get their entries done within the 48 hours and didn't have time to spend looking for suitable ways of doing this.

my year of mixtapes: Week 42: The Year In Rave—1992 (Part 1)

http://yearofmixtapes.blogspot.com/2010/03/week-42-year-in-rave1992-part-1.html
Ok, so 1992 was pretty much the best year ever for music. The Rave scene was blowing up, and every week it seemed like dozens of amazing records were coming out—way more than little 10-year-old me could buy. This was the year that the UK really took the reins from Belgium & the States w/r/t dance music, and when the idea of "rave music" as a distinct thing from house/techno started to emerge.

Audio Shield for Arduino

http://www.ladyada.net/make/waveshield
Adding quality audio to an electronic project is surprisingly difficult. People tend to end up either using low-quality ISD chips (you might get 8Khz sampling rate for 30seconds out of these, if you're lucky!) or mucking around with trying to control a CD or MP3 player. Although it's possible to generate audio direct from a microcontroller using a PWM output, the quality is often low and its hard to fit a lot of music in an EEPROM chip. You can buy an embedded MP3 player board, but they're either expensive or difficult to use!

C64 Standard Tape Interface

"This is an interface which lets you connect your C64 to ANY standard Tape Player instead of the custom made C1531 device, which can be hard to get today. Also it means you can connect your C64 to any PC with a sound card and let the PC act as a Tape Player with a perfectly clear sound - so there are no Load errors possible."

Bruce Campbell, King Of The B Movie : NPR

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=104959445
"You may also remember Campbell as the star of numerous B movies — think Man With the Screaming Brain. He's now directed and produced his own B movie, My Name is Bruce. He built the Western town featured in the film on his own property out of dead timber, and calls it "a very Little Rascals affair.""

Auto-Tune: Why Pop Music Sounds Perfect - TIME

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1877372,00.html
"If you haven't been listening to pop radio in the past few months, you've missed the rise of two seemingly opposing trends. In a medium in which mediocre singing has never been a bar to entry, a lot of pop vocals suddenly sound great. Better than great: note- and pitch-perfect, as if there's been an unspoken tightening of standards at record labels or an evolutionary leap in the development of vocal cords. At the other extreme are a few hip-hop singers who also hit their notes but with a precision so exaggerated that on first listen, their songs sound comically artificial, like a chorus of '50s robots singing Motown."

iTunes music: The cost of removing Apple’s copy protection - Apple 2.0

http://apple20.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2009/01/07/itunes-music-the-cost-of-removing-apples-copy-protection
"Leave it to Apple (AAPL) to turn the lifting of restrictions into a profit center. If users convert every one of the 9 billion songs purchased from the iTunes Store over the past six years, a rich new revenue stream will flow toward Cupertino. Techcrunch’s Erick Schonfeld calls it Apple’s “$1.8 billion music tax.”"

Opentape

Add a feed, and you've got a podcast. "Opentape is a free, open-source package that lets you make and host your own mixtapes on the web. Upload songs (via web or FTP), reorder, rename, customize the style, and share what you like on other sites with an embeddable player."

eyeD3 0.6.16

http://eyed3.nicfit.net
Looks like this can add cover art among other things. "eyeD3 is a Python module and program for processing ID3 tags. Information about mp3 files (i.e bit rate, sample frequency, play time, etc.) is also provided. The formats supported are ID3 v1.0/v1.1 and v2.3/v2.4"

Samuel Bayer: Mike, Dammit
