What they unearthed was the New Retro sound of a forgotten era. Together, they formed Scandroid to bring that sound into their world. Based in an abandoned warehouse in Old Tokyo, they are surrounded by ancient technology and sound from the era of the 1980s. Beneath the shadow of the elite and unreachable Neo-Tokyo, they plan their revolution… https://ift.tt/2K1EP0o https://ift.tt/2Ik7OXp http://www.twitter.com/ScandroidMusic http://www.youtube.com/ScandroidOfficial https://ift.tt/2K02ONm Listen to Scandroid on Spotify! - http://spoti.fi/11Mpl2h

Holy cow, that's a crazy insane markup on coffee pods: "In a 2012 article, New York Times coffee writer Oliver Strand calculated that Nespresso capsules are loaded with 5 grams of coffee each—which adds up to roughly $51 per pound of coffee. At press time, Stumptown Coffee Roasters was offering a 12-ounce bag of Panama Esmeralda Especial Peaberry for $45 (or $60 per pound)." And Panama Esmeralda Especial Peaberry is like the nirvana of the coffee world at $60 a pound. Not like the decent and drinkable $7 a pound Target coffee beans.

Obesity expert says daily workouts can't undo damage done from sitting all day - Rock Center with Brian Williams

Standing all day isn't 100% better, but this is why I have a standing desk now and a tall stool for occasional resting. Much easier than a sitting desk and remembering to occasionally stand - my legs naturally tell me when to take a break. Think I've lost about 15 lbs doing this, too, and my legs are in great shape

My Shame is TL;DR, So You Want to Arm the Teachers

From pinboard.in/deusx: "No. No, no, a thousand times no. If this is your plan, if this is the best you can do, then you really, really, REALLY need not to be firing guns, or carrying guns, or in the presence of guns. You are exactly who should not be armed. Because you’re fucking dangerous, out of touch with reality, frothing at the mouth rabid. And I thank you for showing me how to vote. I will absolutely vote to take your guns away. "

5 Life Lessons You Only Learn Through Quitting Smoking | Cracked.com

One year ago, almost to the day, I quit smoking. Three months after that, I started back up. As I type these words, nine months after that, I'm trying again, wrapping up my first full day of quitting. And, like last time, it is all I can do to stop myself from punching everyone in their softest body parts.

A Look at DeltaCloud: The Multi-Cloud API

http://www.readwriteweb.com/cloud/2012/02/a-look-at-deltacloud-the-multi.php
Amazon Web Services, OpenStack, CloudStack, VMware... Developers have no shortage of IaaS offerings to support. And, lucky them, no shortage of different APIs to deal with, either. DeltaCloud, a top-level Apache project, is designed to help developers cut through the complexity and work with everything from EC2 to Red Hat Enterprise…

5 Forgotten Atrocities from '80s Pop Culture | Cracked.com

http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-forgotten-atrocities-from-80s-pop-culture
Although I consider myself a child of the 90s because that's when I went to college and ultimately became an adult, I still lived through the 80s. I remember Michael Jackson on the radio, Dynasty on TV, and Schwartzenegger in the theaters. Everyone had shoulder pads and neon purses. And questionable mothers let their sons go to elementary school gr

The last Amiga .MOD that I wrote before the end of college. Still kind of cheesy, but the best thing I turned out with an A1200 and a CasioTone MIDI keyboard. Lots of weird technical things, like squashing a 4-track drum pattern down to one track by hand-merging samples and working out the composite pattern

So Long, Launchpads: Pentagon Wants Jets to Send Sats Into Orbit | Danger Room | Wired.com

http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/11/darpa-satellite-launchers
The technology to launch an orbiter from the sky, rather than the ground, already exists. The Pegasus rocket launcher, for example, has performed over 40 aerial launches: A carrier aircraft flies the rocket up, and then fires it off — satellite included — into the stratosphere. But to refine that system, then strip it of human personnel, is a tall order — the launching system would need to be entirely self-sufficient. Indeed, Darpa notes that ALASA is looking for a launcher requiring “no recurring maintenance or support, and no specific integration to prepare for launch.”

Harness the Mental, Creative, and Emotional Benefits of Regular Writing

http://lifehacker.com/5855019/how-to-harness-the-mental-and-emotional-benefits-of-regular-writing
Since writing also makes you take those ideas out of your head and put them into real words, it also challenges you to think about how you can communicate those ideas to others in a way that makes sense. You'll have to turn your abstract ideas into something that's concrete and understandable by others, and it'll challenge you to grow and develop the language and communications skills required to get those ideas across. Even if you deal in facts and figures, creative writing can help you learn to communicate complex ideas more effectively.

Steven Poole: Whatever made you think it was your data anyway?

http://stevenpoole.net/blog/whatever-made-you-think-it-was-your-data-anyway
In case it helps, I hereby declare the following iron law of “free” internet services: If you’re not paying for something, you have no reason to expect it to be there tomorrow. This is an important corollary to the law “If you’re not paying for something, you’re not a customer; you’re the product being sold”.

The DRM graveyard: A brief history of digital rights management in music | opensource.com

http://opensource.com/life/11/11/drm-graveyard-brief-history-digital-rights-management-music
There are more than a few reasons digital rights management (DRM) has been largely unsuccessful. But the easiest way to explain to a consumer why DRM doesn't work is to put it in terms he understands: "What happens to the music you paid for if that company changes its mind?" It was one thing when it was a theoretical question. Now it's a historical one. Rhapsody just had the next in a line of DRM music services to go--this week the company told its users than anyone with RAX files has unil November 7 to back them up in another format or lose them the next time they upgrade their systems.
