The Legend of Zelda Map - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld

https://makerworld.com/en/models/539128-the-legend-of-zelda-map#profileId-456377
A 3D map of The Legend of Zelda. I still remember unfolding this map in the first Nintendo Power and being amazed. I tried to capture as much detail as I could while designing this for a 0.4mm nozzle to keep the print time down. The 1 AMS version proved pretty challenging, but I wanted to be able to share this with as many of you as I could. The overall size without the frame comes out to about 420mm x 140mm.

Making The Zelda G&W Into A MODERN Emulation Powerhouse Because Nintendon’t | Zelda 40th Anniversary - YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YIHjUM8Qms&t=849s
Zelda turns 40 years old, so for its big anniversary we turned the tiny Zelda Game & Watch into a pocket-sized emulation powerhouse. In this video, I upgrade the Zelda Game & Watch with expanded memory, custom firmware, and a microSD card slot for unlimited storage, unlocking support for tons of classic retro consoles, save states, and a fully customizable UI. All on real Nintendo hardware! It’s open-source, community-driven and absolutely insane.

The new Metroid Prime art book offers insights into Nintendo’s process | The Verge

https://www.theverge.com/games/803399/metroid-prime-visual-retrospective-art-book-review
Metroid Prime 1–3: A Visual Retrospective is a fabulous resource for learning more than I ever thought I’d be privy to about Nintendo and Retro Studios’ ambitious first-person adventure series. The 210-page hardcover book launches on October 28th, weeks before the series makes its long-awaited return with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the Switch and Switch 2. It’s the perfect $50 gift for someone who’s pored over video essays about the trilogy’s design, and who’s always wanted to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the games were made

An Ode To The Game Boy Advance | Brain Baking

https://brainbaking.com/post/2025/03/an-ode-to-the-game-boy-advance/
In March 2001, Nintendo introduced an advanced portable model to the gaming market with the release of the Game Boy Advance (GBA, codenamed Advanced Game Boy or AGB). Equipped with a modernized 32-bit ARM CPU running at twice the speed of the Game Boy Color (GBC), this small device was more than capable of playing SNES-like games—still at the price of only two AA batteries.

Switch AI ✨ – Insane Rambles About Technology

https://nocoffei.com/?p=352
The Switch runs an off-the-shelf Nvidia Tegra X1 with 4GB of RAM. It was Nvidias second desktop GPU architecture in a mobile chip, after the Nvidia Tegra K1, containing 256 Maxwell CUDA cores. Announced ten years ago now (On January 5, 2015) it was originally intended for tablets and the automotive industry, before Nintendo picked it up. The Jetson TX1 dev kit was released and it was also present in the somewhat popular and well-known Jetson Nano (though with only half the CUDA cores enabled.) A fully functional (albeit largely proprietary, in traditional Nvidia fashion) Linux4Tegra distribution was shipped, with a working CUDA development environment. CUDA? The compute platform that’s driving the AI revolution ✨? In my Nintendo Switch? Surely you see where I’m going with this.

Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

https://lparchive.org/Legend-of-Zelda-Four-Swords-Adventures/
Released in 2004 for the Nintendo GameCube, Zelda: FSA made use of the wack-ass peripheral known as the GCN-GBA link cable. By hooking these cables up to your Game Boy Advances, you and three friends could play through a cooperative adventure through a land of shittily scaled sprites and bizarre graphical effects known as Hyrule. At the end of each level, everyone gets judged by the game and their heroic cohorts and through a variety of criteria (mainly money), there's a winner for each level. Cooperate and compete. Nintendo's done that a couple of times now.

The NES Expansion Port Is Finally Emerging From The Darkness. Why Now?

https://tedium.co/2024/12/02/nintendo-expansion-port-history/
After 39 years, console modders have begun to develop ways to use the Nintendo Entertainment System’s infamous expansion slot, a key example of vestigial manufacturing. In honor of this amazing feat, which is being used to add Bluetooth and Famicom Disk System support to the console, I thought it might be good to take a look back at this fascinating wrinkle of history. Today’s Tedium ponders the legacy of the NES Expansion Port, and where it’s going next.

Famicom Party | Introduction

https://famicom.party/book/00-introduction/
That dream stuck with me, and after years of being a professional web developer I started learning NES development. (I got a strong nudge in the right direction from Nathan Altice’s excellent I Am Error.) I Am Error. It was hard to know where to begin. There were plenty of resources around the internet, but they were all incomplete or inaccurate in some way. I got started with bunnyboy’s “Nerdy Nights” series on the NintendoAge forums. Then I found tepples’ NROM template on GitHub, and started learning the ca65 assembler. After months of struggling to understand PPU writes, attribute tables, and scroll registers, it all started to click. I’m glad that I had the experience of fighting with these concepts to learn on my own, but I wish that I could have had a guide that started from scratch and taught all of the essentials of NES development.

Nintendo Switch - Matt Gemmell

https://mattgemmell.com/nintendo-switch/
The main feature, of course — even the eponymous feature, if you like — is that it’s neither tethered to your TV, nor an exclusively squint-inducing handheld device. This is a fundamentally humane and grown-up move. I have a home office, but I don’t want a man cave or boy’s room or whatever you might call it. I’m married, and I like my wife. I prefer to be in the same room as her, even if we’re both doing different things and only periodically talking to each other (this is also one of the fab things about marriage). The Switch lets me shut off the TV but keep playing, without having to go to another room. I keep all my games stuff in the living room.

Classic NES Series Anti-Emulation Measures - mGBA

https://endrift.com/mgba/2014/12/28/classic-nes/
From a GBA emulation perspective, the games were especially interesting. The average Game Boy Advance game is extremely buggy, and the platform itself contains a number of safeguards to prevent games from crashing. As a result, emulators tend to need to be bug-compatible with the original hardware to ensure that the games actually work. However, the Classic NES Series goes above and beyond the average game in an attempt to ensure they don’t work in emulators.

Metroid Password Format Guide

http://games.technoplaza.net/mpg/password.txt
This document is a guide to the password system used by Metroid for the NES. It applies to the original Metroid 1 released in the US and Europe. I believe the information is also accurate for the hidden Metroid 1 game that can be unlocked in Metroid Prime, and for Metroid Zero Mission for Game Boy Advance.

He’s outdone himself with downloadable code, schematics, this awesome video, and an Instructable to top it off.

A Metroid marriage proposal that would make the Chozo proud | Joystiq

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/29/metroid-marriage-proposal/
Marriage is a sacred commitment; it's no kind of small thing to consider. You need to show you mean business. You need to put some effort into a proposal. Jered McFerron did when he decided to rewrite the code for the 1986 NES classic, Metroid, in the C++ programming language. This undertaking wasn't initially to propose to his love, Jenni, but struck as an inspiration mid-project when he knew she was the gal for him.

3D Classics: Kid Icarus trailer. It’s Kid Icarus with… backgrounds! This is seriously mind-blowing stuff. I’m not even being sarcastic, either. This game looks awesome with even static backgrounds. I’m genuinely impressed. They look kind of better than the NES could do, giving it a PC Engine-esque look. I’m so down for this.

To help get the point across, PETA has drawn Mario in his Tanooki suit holding a racoon’s head with blood dripping all over the floor. You can also play Super Tanooki Skin 2D the game, which puts you in the role of a skinned raccoon performing jumps as you try to catch a flying Mario who is wearing your blood-drenched skin.

Is it Game Over for Nintendo DS and Sony PSP?

http://blog.flurry.com/bid/77424/Is-it-Game-Over-for-Nintendo-DS-and-Sony-PSP
Portable gaming, played primarily on Nintendo DS and Sony PSP devices, has been dominated by these two companies for over two decades. In this model, at retail, consumers pay around $200 for the gaming device and up to $40 for popular game cartridges. Because of the similar form factor, overlap in consumer base (especially younger players on iPod touch) and the casual nature of game content, Flurry combines iOS and Android devices with traditional portable devices to form the category. With the inclusion of smartphone game revenue into the category, shifts taking place in market share become clearer.

Wow, finally I know this thing's name. Friends and I were semi-obsessed with various Compile games in high school, and we'd doodle this thing from time to time. "Randar/Lander: Known by various different translation, Randar is this smiling blue thing with huge eyes. He's pretty much Compile's mascot, and appears in nearly every title. He heals you in Golvellius, sells you things in The Guardian Legend, and acts as nifty power-ups in many of the shooter titles. He even starred in a few small little RPGs."
