Metorial - Integration Platform for AI

https://metorial.com/blog/jquery-age-of-ai
If you're building with AI right now, connecting agents to tools, wiring up APIs, trying to get Claude to talk to your database, you're living through something weirdly familiar (I think). It's the same chaotic, fragmented, "why is this so hard" energy that web developers felt in the mid-2000s when every browser implemented JavaScript differently and cross-browser compatibility was a prayer, not a promise.

Your vibe coded slop PR is not welcome

A ready to review PR is the traditional PRs we submit. We reviewed all the machine generated code and vouch for all of it. We ran the tests and like the tests, we like the code structure, we read every single line of code carefully we also made sure the PR meets a project’s guidelines.

Custom OIDC providers · Tailscale Docs

https://tailscale.com/kb/1240/sso-custom-oidc
Tailscale can integrate with identity providers that support OpenID Connect (OIDC). The steps provided in this topic are required only for initial creation of a tailnet. After the signup process is completed, Tailscale will work like any other supported identity provider. For more information about OIDC, refer to Welcome to OpenID Connect.

Using your self-hosted Authentik as an Identity Provider for Tailscale

https://blog.antsu.net/custom-tailscale-oidc-provider-with-authentik/
Another cool thing about Tailscale is that they try to keep as little information about their users as possible, and so do not have their own login mechanism, instead leaving this task to common authentication providers like Google and Microsoft, or allowing the use of any identity provider compatible with OpenID Connect, which is the case for Authentik, and the topic of this post.

The Continual Learning Problem

https://jessylin.com/2025/10/20/continual-learning/?ref=sidebar
If we want to move towards a world where models are “always training” and continually learning from experience over time, we need to address a basic challenge: how do we keep updating the parameters of a model without breaking it? In this post, I’ll motivate memory layers as a natural architecture for this paradigm: high-capacity, but sparse (few active parameters) on each forward pass. In our recent paper, we found that finetuning memory layers enables learning without forgetting much more effectively than LoRA. When learning TriviaQA facts, NaturalQuestions performance drops by 89% with full finetuning and 71% with LoRA, but only 11% with memory layers. Along the way, I’ll also discuss the challenges of the continual learning problem broadly.

Argo Workflows on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) | by Arax Zaeimi | Medium

You might have read a lot about Argo Workflows and now you are wondering how to install and start using it. Well, installing Argo Workflows on your local machine is pretty much straightforward, it’s just a matter of seconds to have your first running Argo Workflows. But, there are always some obstacles when you decide to install such applications on the cloud. In the following article, I want to demonstrate how to install Argo Workflows on GKE and prepare it to use.

After setting up nightly builds on GitHub Actions, I wanted to create a Homebrew Tap and Formula for people who sponsor me on GitHub for early access - being able to brew install is a much more pleasant onboarding experience for a new sponsor than having to compile from source.

Joe Magerramov's blog: The New Calculus of AI-based Coding

https://blog.joemag.dev/2025/10/the-new-calculus-of-ai-based-coding.html
Instead, we use an approach where a human and AI agent collaborate to produce the code changes. For our team, every commit has an engineer's name attached to it, and that engineer ultimately needs to review and stand behind the code. We use steering rules to setup constraints for how the AI agent should operate within our codebase, and writing in Rust has been a great benefit. Rust compiler is famous for focusing on correctness and safety, catching many problems at compile time and providing helpful error messages that help the agent iterate. As a juxtaposition to vibe coding, I prefer the term "agentic coding." Much less exciting but in our industry boring is usually good.

Gary Numan Unearths Lost Telekon-Era Track “Like a B-Film” for Album's 45th Anniversary Edition — Post-Punk.com

Numan’s instinct to move forward remains intact. This year, Beggars Banquet opens his archives once more for Telekon’s 45th anniversary: an expanded reissue featuring four previously unreleased recordings, including Like A B-Film, an unearthed relic from the original sessions. Early versions of Please Push No More, Aircrash Bureau, and I’m An Agent reveal a restless mind still at work, testing limits even within success.

'AI' Sucks the Joy Out of Programming - Alexandru Nedelcu

https://alexn.org/blog/2025/10/27/ai-sucks-the-joy-out-of-programming/
With an LLM-driven workflow, I’m getting all the bad parts about programming, like the stress generated by not being in control when things aren’t working, desperately trying to shoot bullets in the dark and fix unmaintainable code, and without any of the gratification, which comes from the journey itself. We’re replacing that journey and all the learning, with a dialogue with an inconsistent idiot.

I think it's gotten easy to forget we used to do this all the time. Not necessarily the internet at large, and believe me, I'm well aware the pre-algorithm internet was anything but an endless vista of peaches and sunshine, but the geek community part of the internet. Which, believe it or not, hasn't been all of it more or less since Usenet. The bookish, SFF, community-minded people who identified as geeks, not to make money off a new demographic, but just because that's what we were. Who used social media to make genuine human connections, to craft things and be silly and make stuff, not because of some grindset, but because they wanted to. Before the incredible waterfall of human creativity the internet allowed to come into the light of day became just more content. Before the proto-oligarchs saw what little people were doing with their free time and saw the possibility of using it as bait to lead us all into the data-gobbling joy-disposal algorithm-driven online life keeps trying to become.

HyperRogue by Zeno Rogue

https://zenorogue.itch.io/hyperrogue
The twist is the unique, unusual geometry of the world: it is one of just few games which takes place on the hyperbolic plane. Witness a grid composed of hexagons and heptagons, straight lines which seem to be parallel, but then they diverge and never cross, triangles whose angles add up to less than 180 degrees, how extremely unlikely is it to reach the same place twice, and how the world seems to be rotated when you do return. All this matters for the gameplay. The game is inspired by the roguelike genre (although in a very minimalist way), works of M. C. Escher, and by puzzle games such as Deadly Rooms of Death.

LLMs Can Get "Brain Rot"!

https://llm-brain-rot.github.io/
We propose and test the LLM Brain Rot Hypothesis: continual exposure to junk web text induces lasting cognitive decline in large language models (LLMs). To causally isolate data quality, we run controlled experiments on real Twitter/X corpora, constructing junk and reversely controlled datasets via two orthogonal operationalizations: M1 (engagement degree) and M2 (semantic quality), with matched token scale and training operations across conditions.

ChatGPT's Atlas: The Browser That's Anti-Web - Anil Dash

https://www.anildash.com/2025/10/22/atlas-anti-web-browser/
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, released their own browser called Atlas, and it actually is something new: the first browser that actively fights against the web. Let's talk about what that means, and what dangers there are from an anti-web browser made by an AI company — one that probably needs a warning label when you install it.

The Majority AI View - Anil Dash

https://www.anildash.com//2025/10/17/the-majority-ai-view/
What's amazing is the reality that virtually 100% of tech experts I talk to in the industry feel this way, yet nobody outside of that cohort will mention this reality. What we all want is for people to just treat AI as a "normal technology", as Arvind Naryanan and Sayash Kapoor so perfectly put it. I might be a little more angry and a little less eloquent: stop being so goddamn creepy and weird about the technology! It's just tech, everything doesn't have to become some weird religion that you beat people over the head with, or gamble the entire stock market on.

Making WiFi Sound Like Dial-Up Internet | Hackaday

https://hackaday.com/2025/10/24/making-wifi-sound-like-dial-up-internet/
Dial-up modems had a distinctive sound when connecting, with the glittering, screeching song becoming a familiar melody to those jumping online in the early days of the Internet. Modern digital connections don’t really have an analog to this, by virtue of being entirely digital. And yet, [Nick Bild] decided to make WiFi audible in a pleasing tribute to the modems of yore.

Running Pull Requests in Github Codespaces - These Yaks Ain’t Gonna Shave Themselves

https://polotek.net/posts/running-pull-requests-in-github-codespaces/
Here’s the idea. I have a solo project that I’m working on, and instead of hacking away on the main branch, I’m using a full feature branch and pull request workflow to keep my changes organized. This might seem like overkill, but it’s helpful for me because I tend to bounce around and leave things half done. I can run things locally and test different things by switching between branches. But I’m also doing a lot more AI-assisted development. Locally I use Claude Code. But I’ve been experimenting with allowing Github Copilot to create PRs. I create a github issue, assign it to copilot, and it spins up in the cloud and does work. Afterwards it opens a pull request for me to review. So even though this is a “solo” project, I end up with pull requests that I didn’t write myself and I need to validate.

Data centers turn to commercial aircraft jet engines bolted onto trailers as AI power crunch bites — cast-off turbines generate up to 48 MW of electricity apiece | Tom's Hardware

Faced with multi-year delays to secure grid power, US data center operators are deploying aeroderivative gas turbines — effectively retired commercial aircraft engines bolted into trailers — to keep AI infrastructure online.

Scripting News: Think different about developers

http://scripting.com/2025/10/23/133525.html#a133630
This is the same problem web devs have, we have to become resellers for Amazon S3. Why can't Amazon, who already has an account for every freaking person in the world, let the user own their own data, which I believe they would reallllly like. I don't want access to it, I just want to make great tools for them to use. And they're free to use other products with the data. This helps encourage data format standards. It's why the PC software market was so much more vibrant than the web developer market.

Breathing Through Our Butts Declared Safe After First Human Trial

https://www.404media.co/breathing-through-our-butts-declared-safe-after-first-human-trial/
Scientists have tested out enteral ventilation—a possible method of administering oxygen with a liquid delivered through the rectum that is then absorbed into the intestines—in humans for the first time. The trial demonstrated that this method of ventilation is safe and “paves the way for future studies to see if this technique can help patients with respiratory failure,” according to a study published on Monday in the journal Med.

The president has never understood that the White House (and government) aren’t his – pbump

https://www.pbump.net/o/the-president-has-never-understood-that-the-white-house-and-government-arent-his/
The metaphor of Trump crushing a portion of the White House as he aims bulldozers at democracy itself is almost too obvious to note. But it’s not just a symbolic parallel: both are rooted in the same indifference to what these American institutions mean to Americans and to America. Both are rooted in Trump wanting to treat those things as his own and now feeling empowered to do precisely that.

Frank Chimero · Beyond the Machine

https://frankchimero.com/blog/2025/beyond-the-machine/?ref=sidebar
If working in the Rubin style puts you under the machine, Eno works beside it. He sets up a system with his inputs and samples, then listens, selects, and continues to shape. Eno often says while making music he feels like a gardener: planting loops and textures, then watching them sprout into something unexpected with the potential to become incredibly beautiful with a little bit of care and pruning. The machine may produce material, but the job of shaping it into something meaningful still rests with him. It is creativity as cultivation.

The smallest Docker image to serve static websites | Florin Lipan

https://lipanski.com/posts/smallest-docker-image-static-website
Until recently, I used to think that serving static websites from Docker would be a waste of bandwith and storage. Bundling nginx or various other heavy runtimes inside a Docker image for the sole purpose of serving static files didn’t seem like the best idea - Netlify or Github Pages can handle this much better. But my hobby server was sad and cried digital tears.

✩ How I meet deadlines with ADHD

https://pho.spookygirl.boo/phame/post/view/59/how_i_meet_deadlines_with_adhd/
What I've found works is to do my planning working backwards from my deadline, I break the goal into roughly fixed size tasks. So if the goal is "clean the house by this Saturday" I estimate (more on this in a second) how long cleaning a bedroom, the kitchen, bathroom, etc take. If one of those is much larger than others I try to break it it up to get closer to the same size. If something is much smaller, then I try to group it with other small things. This sometimes takes multiple rounds. Once I've done this, I work backwards. This tells me when I need to start working on the tasks. When I've finished about half the tasks, then I know I'm about half-way to the deadline. I don't need to think about the actual time of the deadline most of the time. If someone asks if I'll meet the deadline I just look at my list and I'll have my answer.

Michael J Fox And Christopher Lloyd On Back To The Future At 40

“We live in a bully culture right now. We have bullies everywhere — you don’t need me to point the finger at who, but there are all these bullies,” he explains. “In this movie, Biff is a bully. Time is a bully. For me personally, Parkinson’s is a bully. And it’s all about how you stand up to them and the resolve that you take into the fight with them. It’s about your resilience and your courage.”

Simon Collison | Eno on AI

https://colly.com/journal/eno-on-ai
All my misgivings about AI really are to do with the fact that it’s owned by a group of people that I don’t trust at all. I don’t trust their taste, I don’t trust their morals, and I don’t trust their politics, and that’s a problem for me—that the whole technology is in the hands of the wrong people.

Living dangerously with Claude

https://simonwillison.net/2025/Oct/22/living-dangerously-with-claude/#atom-everything
I gave a talk last night at Claude Code Anonymous in San Francisco, the unofficial meetup for coding agent enthusiasts. I decided to talk about a dichotomy I’ve been struggling with recently. On the one hand I’m getting enormous value from running coding agents with as few restrictions as possible. On the other hand I’m deeply concerned by the risks that accompany that freedom.

Democracy and the open internet die in daylight – Hi, I'm Heather Burns

https://heatherburns.tech/2025/10/22/democracy-and-the-open-internet-die-in-daylight/
Leaving aside the idea of access to any form of content being conditional on the use of a proprietary browser, which is a particularly horrid 1990s throwback, I’m going to call this day 0 of an experiment in shifting the funding model of journalism from adtech to agentic AI.

T Boy Wrestling Gives Oregonians Their Moment on the Mat

https://www.wweek.com/culture/2025/10/14/hell-yeah-brother/
Wrestling’s widespread popularity as a sport and performance art creates space for different forms of transmasculine expression, Miller says. They liken enthusiasm for this event with drag’s popularity. That’s not surprising since, especially on the performance side of things, wrestling is pretty much indistinguishable from drag. Pro wrestlers don an exaggerated, campy persona and self-styled costumes that reinforce their personas. Even those competing in the traditional matches take stage names and personas, playing with gender by performing hypermasculinity in the ring.

マリウス . A Word on Omarchy

https://xn--gckvb8fzb.com/a-word-on-omarchy/
Omarchy feels like a project created by a Linux newcomer, utterly captivated by all the cool things that Linux can do, but lacking the architectural knowledge to get the basics right, and the experience to give each tool a thoughtful review. Instead of carefully selecting software and ensuring that everything works as promised, the approach seems to be more about throwing everything that somehow looks cool into a pile. There’s no attention to sensible defaults, no real quality control, and certainly no verification that the setup won’t end up causing harm or, at the very least, frustration for the user. The primary focus seems to be on creating a visually appealing but otherwise hollow product.

The new Metroid Prime art book offers insights into Nintendo’s process | The Verge

Metroid Prime 1–3: A Visual Retrospective is a fabulous resource for learning more than I ever thought I’d be privy to about Nintendo and Retro Studios’ ambitious first-person adventure series. The 210-page hardcover book launches on October 28th, weeks before the series makes its long-awaited return with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the Switch and Switch 2. It’s the perfect $50 gift for someone who’s pored over video essays about the trilogy’s design, and who’s always wanted to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the games were made

Live Coding Techno With Strudel | Hackaday

https://hackaday.com/2025/10/16/live-coding-techno-with-strudel/
The super talented [Switch Angel] is an electronic music artist, with a few cool YouTube videos to show off their absolute nailing of how to live code with Strudel. For us mere mortals, Strudel is a JavaScript port of TidalCycles, which is an algorithmic music generator which supports live coding, i.e. the music that is passed down to the synthesizer changes on-the-fly as you manipulate the code. It’s magical to watch (and listen!) to how you can adapt and distort the music to your whims just by tweaking a few lines of code: no compilation steps, hardly any debugging and instant results.

The Wrew: Core Dump

https://wrewtopia.com/read/2025-10-04
The thing is… it is made to run on an ESP12, which is very capable and very power efficient, but tends not to allow for external antennas and doesn’t have great WiFi range. I wanted more range. I want an external antenna. And I have a few spare ESP32’s sitting around that allow for external antennas and have better WiFi performance. So, I decided to try to port the firmware from the ESP12 to the ESP32.

Designers Have to Move from the Surface to the Substrate — Suff Syed

https://www.suffsyed.com/futurememo/designers-have-to-move-from-the-surface-to-the-substrate
We're still arguing about “does Figma Make augment creativity” while the actual decisions, the ones that will shape how billions of people relate to intelligence, are being made in rooms we're not invited to, using language we haven't learned, by people who will have to move mountains to help the designers of today understand these technical nuances. Which will inadvertently slow progress down. In a landscape that’s moving at blistering speed, that’s a make or break.

Software can be finished - Ross Wintle

https://rosswintle.uk/2025/10/software-can-be-finished/?ref=sidebar
There is a utopia where we write correct, bug-free, fast, secure, statically-built software with zero dependencies that does it’s job and will continue doing it’s job as long as the platform it’s written for endures. This feels like it should be a thing we strive for. It feels like a Good Thing (TM)

The Design Leaders Are Lying to You — Suff Syed

https://www.suffsyed.com/futurememo/the-design-leaders-are-lying-to-you
Every designer now faces a choice. You can continue seeking guidance from leaders who are excellent generals of yesterday's war. Continue perfecting skills optimized for a diminishing paradigm, hoping the transformation will somehow spare you. That your craft will be recognized. That your leaders will guide you through. Or recognize that the paradigm has already shifted. That the work determining design's future is happening now, in rooms where most designers are not present. And that if we want to shape that future, we must be willing to fundamentally transform what it means to practice design.

Open Social — overreacted

https://overreacted.io/open-social/
I believe we are at a similar juncture with social apps as we have been with open source thirty five years ago. There’s a new movement on the block. I like to call it “open social”. There are competing visions for what “open social” should be like. I think the AT Protocol created by Bluesky is the most convincing take on it so far. It’s not perfect, and it’s a work in progress, but there’s nothing I know quite like it.

Thoughts On Omarchy: Slick Distro, Complicated Ethics

https://tedium.co/2025/10/13/omarchy-linux-distro-commentary/
Omarchy is a reminder that we live in a world where software isn’t just software, but the people who make it. And dhh, despite his rep as a dev’s dev, comes with a hell of a lot of baggage. Recently, the Ruby on Rails community has been through some things, and dhh himself has proven a lightning rod on multiple occasions, most recently for a post many saw as deeply xenophobic, bordering on eugenicist.

The Programmer Identity Crisis ❈ Simon Højberg ❈ Principal Frontend Engineer

https://hojberg.xyz/the-programmer-identity-crisis/
Inside companies, power dynamics are shifting as this new identity is pushed. In a mad dash to increase productivity in the wrong place7, developers are forced to use LLMs in increasingly specific ways. Conform or be cast out. Use the products that herald our obsolescence, or resign. Scarcely has management mandated such specifics of our tools before. Tools, like those of a chef or carpenter, that we’ve taken great pride in curating and honing ourselves: careful configuration of our editor, tinkering with dot files, and dev environments. As part of the craft, we’ve been dedicated and devoted to personalizing our toolsets to match our thinking. It feels like a violation to have this be decreed by management, who have little to no connection to the day-to-day, and who should instead be concerned with outcomes, process, and facilitating creativity. For decades, programmers have been pampered within companies. These narratives offer a new way for management to tip the balance back in their favor.

Building The DVD Logo Screensaver With LEGO | Hackaday

There’s something extremely calming and pleasing about watching a screensaver that merely bounces some kind of image around, with the DVD logo screensaver of a DVD player being a good example. The logical conclusion is thus that it would be great to replicate this screensaver in Lego, because it’d be fun and easy. That’s where [Grant Davis]’s life got flipped upside-down, as this turned out to be anything but an easy task in his chosen medium.

Vibe engineering

https://simonwillison.net/2025/Oct/7/vibe-engineering/#atom-everything
If you’re going to really exploit the capabilities of these new tools, you need to be operating at the top of your game. You’re not just responsible for writing the code—you’re researching approaches, deciding on high-level architecture, writing specifications, defining success criteria, designing agentic loops, planning QA, managing a growing army of weird digital interns who will absolutely cheat if you give them a chance, and spending so much time on code review. Almost all of these are characteristics of senior software engineers already! AI tools amplify existing expertise. The more skills and experience you have as a software engineer the faster and better the results you can get from working with LLMs and coding agents.

Bluesky’s CEO meltdown: How leadership continues to fail its most marginalized users | by Nico Mara-McKay | Oct, 2025 | Medium

https://plutopsyche.medium.com/blueskys-ceo-meltdown-how-leadership-continues-to-fail-its-most-marginalized-users-8bfa7a8824b4
Bluesky’s early promise has eroded. The platform’s inconsistent and retaliatory moderation practices have drifted steadily rightward, protecting prominent racists and transphobes while suppressing those who speak out against them. Even mild criticism of the company’s failures to safeguard marginalized users is now met with shadowbans, takedowns, or silence. That’s not leadership. That’s an abdication of responsibility — and we deserve better.

inessential: Why NetNewsWire Is Not a Web App

https://inessential.com/2025/10/04/why-netnewswire-is-not-web-app.html
If it were a web app instead, I could drop the developer membership, but I’d have to pay way more money for web and database hosting. Probably need a CDN too, and who knows what else. (I don’t have recent web app experience, so I don’t even know what my requirements would be, but I’m sure they’d cost substantially more than a couple hundred bucks a year.) I could charge for NetNewsWire, but that would go against my political goal of making sure there’s a good and free RSS reader available to everyone.

Personal data storage is an idea whose time has come

https://blog.muni.town/personal-data-storage-idea/
Personal Data Storage has long since escaped containment as a concept pertaining to any specific protocol. Some implementations of it will be more mainstream than others, but pragmatic data coops can be protocol-agnostic and storage formats are transmutable. As long as we have sufficient control of our own data there will always be a way to restart our social graph and digital presence elsewhere in the event of platform collapse. Let’s make the web personal again.

Simple automated deployments using git push

https://garrido.io/notes/simple-automated-deployments-git-push/
Using git push remains one of my favorite ways of deploying software. It’s simple, effective, and you can stretch it significantly until you need more complex workflows. I’m not referring to using git push to trigger a Github action which builds and deploys software. I’m talking about using git push web main to deploy your main branch to a server that you’ve named web.

AI and Home-Cooked Software | Karan Sharma

https://mrkaran.dev/posts/ai-home-cooked-software/
I’ve been noticing a new pattern: people with deep domain knowledge but no coding experience are now building their own tools. Armed with AI assistants, they can create custom workflows in a matter of days, bypassing traditional development cycles. Are these solutions production-ready? Not even close. But they solve urgent, specific problems, and that’s what matters. Tasks that once required weeks of specialized training are quickly becoming weekend projects.

Meshtastic 64 Radio Demo on Commodore 64 - The Oasis BBS

https://theoasisbbs.com/meshtastic-64-radio-demo-on-commodore-64/?feed_id=5678&_unique_id=68dfcf2d76f81
The Meshtastic 64 Radio connects through the user port and sits inside a cartridge shell with a built-in battery. Once installed, the device powers up and runs with a custom BASIC program loaded from floppy disk. This software lets the Commodore 64 send and receive text messages across the Meshtastic network, linking retro hardware with modern mesh communication.

My self-hosted Forgejo runner setup | I do what I can

https://mteixeira.wordpress.com/2025/02/03/my-self-hosted-forgejo-runner-setup/
In this (very long post) I will be demonstrating how I have setup my self-hosted Forgejo runners at home using Docker Compose, Docker-in-Docker and a bonus LXC. To demonstrate with a practical example, I will be building an Ansible Execution environment, to be used in my home lab automation. There will be two versions of it: a single node, and a dual node build. Both will result in the images for two platforms/architectures (AMD64 and ARM64).

Using GraphViz for CLAUDE.md

https://blog.fsck.com/2025/09/29/using-graphviz-for-claudemd/
One of the things that I thought they said during the talk was that they were using .dot (GraphViz) as the language that they are using as the formalization for new processes for their coding agent. It made sense to me. There's enough dot on the Internet that models can read and understand it quite well. And it removes a whole bunch of the ambiguity of English language specifications.

90% | Armin Ronacher's Thoughts and Writings

https://lucumr.pocoo.org/2025/9/29/90-percent/
For me, this has reached the point where I can’t imagine working any other way. Yes, I could probably have done it without AI. But I would have built a different system in parts because I would have made different trade-offs. This way of working unlocks paths I’d normally skip or defer.
