Blonde Redhead Cocktail Recipe | PUNCH

https://punchdrink.com/recipes/blonde-redhead/
A whisky-fied Negroni, the Blonde Redhead is two parts Italian (Carpano Antica sweet vermouth and barolo chinato) and one part Japanese (Yamazaki 12 year whisky)—just like the ’90s rock band it’s named for (a set of Italian twins and a Japanese singer-songwriter). Creator Douglas Derrick of Portland, OR replaced gin with Japanese whisky and Campari with barolo chinato to transform the classic formula into a digestif/late-evening riff. Served up in a coupe rimmed with Campari-infused orange peels, the drink is modeled after Japanese technique in which a single ice cube from its mixing glass is added to the cocktail to slowly melt with the drinker’s progression

"Shrimps is bugs" all over the city: Thank you for leading me to this rabbithole of scientific and taxonomic discovery. Love a good perspective flip. No, it hadn't occurred to me before, I was stuck on how their tails look like mermaids. This is all very fun to think about, reevaluating attachment to categories and all that. Thanks for the brain candy.

With no television reception, she became a rabid reader, waiting impatiently for the bookmobile’s fortnightly visit to her tiny hometown. Today, her family struggles to find room for her expanding book collection in their Portland, Oregon, home. She really likes books about horror movies, ecology, running, and vegan cooking.

T Boy Wrestling Gives Oregonians Their Moment on the Mat

https://www.wweek.com/culture/2025/10/14/hell-yeah-brother/
Wrestling’s widespread popularity as a sport and performance art creates space for different forms of transmasculine expression, Miller says. They liken enthusiasm for this event with drag’s popularity. That’s not surprising since, especially on the performance side of things, wrestling is pretty much indistinguishable from drag. Pro wrestlers don an exaggerated, campy persona and self-styled costumes that reinforce their personas. Even those competing in the traditional matches take stage names and personas, playing with gender by performing hypermasculinity in the ring.

Fabrika opened in July in the Bindery Annex building with seasonal cocktails and a seafood-forward menu. Kachka beverage director and head distiller Jamie Bones created a list of six original martinis for the bar, from a non-alcoholic martini to a nod to Scandinavian culture with dill aquavit and their version of an espresso martini (birch vodka, Kahlua, instant coffee, coffee condensed milk, with a chicory molasses swirl). As one would expect from a vodka-centric bar, the martinis are all ICE. COLD.

City of Portland will issue land use violation notice for ICE facility, triggering process to determine next steps at the site | Portland.gov

https://www.portland.gov/mayor/keith-wilson/news/2025/9/16/city-portland-will-issue-land-use-violation-notice-ice-facility
Following an investigation, the City of Portland will send a land use violation notice this Thursday for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Southwest Portland – launching a process to determine whether the site’s detention practices comply with the conditions of the site’s land use approval. Federal government records from a 10-month period show more than two dozen detention policy violations of the facility’s land use conditions of approval with the city, which does not allow detainees to be kept overnight or held for more than 12 hours. The notice also references a second violation related to boarded windows, which is not associated with the land use approval.
