Netrunner – Convolution BBS

https://convolutionbbs.org/netrunner-2/
Finally, an online ‘cyberpunk’ game that comes close to portraying computing as depicted in classic cyberpunk works like Neuromancer by William Gibson. In this game the player is a NetRunner, an arrogant and bold futuristic hacker. Armed with his cyberdeck and an arsenal of offensive, defensive and analysis software he’s ready to invade corporate systems in the grid and raid their credits, for fame and fortune! It’s no cakewalk though! Waiting for the unwary are Intrusion Counter-measures (IC). Machine controlled defenses that can inflict damage to hardware and software, steal the players own credits and even cause… death.

Add a Solid State Hard Drive to Your Amiga 600 or 1200 Using a Compact Flash Card with IDE Adapter (30-60 mins) – Retro Projects

https://retroprojects.org/add-a-solid-state-hard-drive-to-your-amiga-600-or-1200-using-a-compact-flash-card-with-ide-adapter-30-60-mins/
I recently purchased an Amiga 1200 which has hard drive support through an internal IDE connector. Adding a hard drive is appealing since booting from floppy disk or a Gotek floppy drive emulator can be quite tedious and slow. The good news is that there are solid state options using compact flash (CF) or secure digital (SD) card solutions through an IDE adapter. I went with a CF card adapter that I purchased for less than $30 from AmiKit on eBay. This is shown below inserted into the IDE slot on my 1200.

We are Changing our Developer Productivity Experiment Design - METR

https://metr.org/blog/2026-02-24-uplift-update/
Based on conversations with study participants, we believe it is likely that developers are more sped up from AI tools now — in early 2026 — compared to our estimates from early 2025. However, because of the selection effects in our experiment, our data is only very weak evidence for the size of this increase. Our raw results show some evidence for speedup. Our early 2025 study found the use of AI causes tasks to take 19% longer, with a confidence interval between +2% and +39%. For the subset of the original developers who participated in the later study, we now estimate a speedup of -18% with a confidence interval between -38% and +9%. Among newly-recruited developers the estimated speedup is -4%, with a confidence interval between -15% and +9%.

A.I. Isn't People

https://www.todayintabs.com/p/a-i-isn-t-people
Imagine you have two machines. One you can open up and examine all of its workings, and if you give it every picture of a cat on the whole internet, it can reliably distinguish cats from non-cats. The other is a black box and it can also reliably distinguish cats from non-cats if you give it half a dozen pictures of cats, some apple sauce, and a hug. These machines sort of do the same thing, but even without knowing how the second one works I am extremely confident in saying it doesn’t work the same way as the first one.

UNIX99, a UNIX-like OS for the TI-99/4A - TI-99/4A Development - AtariAge Forums

https://forums.atariage.com/topic/380883-unix99-a-unix-like-os-for-the-ti-994a/
I’ve been working on developing an operating system for the TI-99 for the last 18 months or so. I didn’t intend this—my original plan was to develop enough of the standard C libraries to help with writing cartridge-based and EA5 programs. But that trek led me quickly towards developing an OS. As Unix is by far my preferred OS, this OS is an approximation. Developing an OS within the resources available, particularly the RAM, has been challenging, but also surprisingly doable.

We Are Not Going Back

https://aaron.com.es/blog/we-are-not-going-back/
I don’t think we will ever go back to how we used to program. And it happened so fast that I didn’t even notice when it happened. One day I was writing code. The next day I was… still writing code, but with AI. And then at some point it flipped. Now I’m mostly directing code. Reviewing. Prompting. Iterating. The AI writes most of it. It wasn’t a dramatic shift. It was subtle. A little bit more capable every week. And suddenly I’m here, doing the dishes, realizing that everything has changed and I don’t know exactly when.

The Hunt for Dark Breakfast – Ryan Moulton's Articles

https://moultano.wordpress.com/2026/02/22/the-hunt-for-dark-breakfast/
“In the manifold of breakfast, are there empty subspaces? Might there be breakfasts that no one has ever had? With a theoretical model of breakfast, can we derive the existence of ‘dark breakfasts,’ breakfasts that we know must exist, but have never observed?” The curtain of reality had pulled back for me, and I could no longer pretend to be ignorant of these eldritch possibilities. I furiously began to map the known breakfasts. If the dark breakfast exists, I must be able to find it in the interstices of the normal familiar world.

Rush is a Band Blog: Rush fan uncovers rare, early Presto rough cut demo cassette tape

https://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2026/02/21/6434/Rush-fan-uncovers-rare-early-Presto-rough-cut-demo-cassette-tape
Rush fan Mike Z recently acquired an old rough cut demo tape of Rush's Presto that had been discovered amongst the belongings of a former Alex Lifeson guitar tech who passed away (likely Jimmy Johnson). The old TDK cassette tape was labeled RUSH Rough mixes, and included the Le Studio logo and address/phone. With the help of fellow Rush fan Danny de Hoyos, the pair digitized the cassette and made it available on YouTube

Making The Zelda G&W Into A MODERN Emulation Powerhouse Because Nintendon’t | Zelda 40th Anniversary - YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YIHjUM8Qms&t=849s
Zelda turns 40 years old, so for its big anniversary we turned the tiny Zelda Game & Watch into a pocket-sized emulation powerhouse. In this video, I upgrade the Zelda Game & Watch with expanded memory, custom firmware, and a microSD card slot for unlimited storage, unlocking support for tons of classic retro consoles, save states, and a fully customizable UI. All on real Nintendo hardware! It’s open-source, community-driven and absolutely insane.

マリウス . Hold on to Your Hardware

https://xn--gckvb8fzb.com/hold-on-to-your-hardware/
There is a darker, conspiratorial interpretation of today’s hardware trends that reads less like market economics and more like a rehearsal for a managed future. Businesses, having discovered that ownership is inefficient and obedience is profitable, are quietly steering society toward a world where no one owns compute at all, where hardware exists only as an abstraction rented back to the public through virtual servers, SaaS subscriptions, and metered experiences, and where digital sovereignty, that anyone with a PC tower under their desk once had, becomes an outdated, eccentric, and even suspicious concept.

One vaccine may provide broad protection against many respiratory infections and allergens

https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2026/02/universal-vaccine.html
“Imagine getting a nasal spray in the fall months that protects you from all respiratory viruses including COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus and the common cold, as well as bacterial pneumonia and early spring allergens,” Pulendran said. “That would transform medical practice.”

AddyOsmani.com - Agentic Engineering

https://addyosmani.com/blog/agentic-engineering/?ref=sidebar
The irony is that AI-assisted development actually rewards good engineering practices more than traditional coding does. The better your specs, the better the AI’s output. The more comprehensive your tests, the more confidently you can delegate. The cleaner your architecture, the less the AI hallucinates weird abstractions. As one analysis noted, “AI didn’t cause the problem; skipping the design thinking did.”

Introducing Markdown for Agents

https://blog.cloudflare.com/markdown-for-agents/
Here’s how it works. To fetch the markdown version of any page from a zone with Markdown for Agents enabled, the client needs to add the Accept negotiation header with text/markdown as one of the options. Cloudflare will detect this, fetch the original HTML version from the origin, and convert it to markdown before serving it to the client.

No Coding Before 10am | Michael Bloch

https://michaelxbloch.substack.com/p/no-coding-before-10am
Six months from now, there will be two kinds of engineering teams: ones that rebuilt how they work from first principles, and ones still trying to make agents fit into their old playbook. The second group will get outshipped by teams half their size.

AI is going to kill app subscriptions

https://nichehunt.app/blog/ai-going-to-kill-app-subscriptions
For apps that run locally—no servers, no cloud costs—subscriptions make no sense anymore. The only real cost is development, and that's becoming negligible. If someone charges $10/month for a local PDF editor, someone else will build a clone for $5 one-time. Then someone will make it free.

Magic Words - daverupert.com

https://daverupert.com/2026/02/magic-words/
That sort of quality variance is uncomfortable for me from a tooling perspective. Tooling should be highly consistent and this has a “works on my machine” vibe to it. I suppose all my discomfort goes away if I quit caring about the outputs. If I embrace the cognitive dissonance and switch to a “ZOMG the future is amazeballs” hype mode, my job becomes a lot easier. But my brain has been unsuccessful in doing that thus far. I like magic and mystery, but hope- or luck-based development has its challenges for me.

Coding agents as the new compilers - Anil Dash

https://www.anildash.com/2026/02/11/coding-agents-as-the-new-compilers/
But the response to that skepticism is not to reject the category of technology, but rather to capture it and seize control over its direction, away from the Big AI companies. This shift to a new level of coding abstraction is exactly the kind of platform shift that presents that sort of opportunity. It’s potentially a chance for coders to be in control of some part of their destiny, at a time when a lot of bosses clearly want to get rid of as many coders as they can. At the very least, this is one area where the people who actually make things are ahead of the big platforms that want to cash in on it.

Why Vampires Live Forever | Machiel Reyneke

https://machielreyneke.com/blog/vampires-longevity/
The one thing the longevity-vampire community has not yet learned from Dracula is operational security. Dracula operated in silence for centuries. He didn’t have a podcast. He didn’t track his erection quality on a public dashboard. He didn’t appear on Netflix. He understood that the fundamental rule of being a vampire is: don’t talk about being a vampire.

Dorodango

https://blog.fsck.com/2026/02/10/dorodango/
There's definitely a perception I've heard from folks who haven't spent a lot of time with the tools that the output of coding agents is always going to be a classical big ball of mud -- a horrible monstrosity with no clear architecture...just a jumbled mess of code that kind of somehow does the thing. It's not true, but that's what many folks think. So why not lean into it? I find myself engaging in software Dorodango pretty much every day.

Rice Theory: Why Eastern Cultures Are More Cooperative : The Salt : NPR

https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2014/05/08/310477497/rice-theory-why-eastern-cultures-are-more-cooperative
The idea is simple. Growing rice tends to foster cultures that are more cooperative and interconnected, Talhelm and his colleagues explain Thursday in the journal Science. Why? Because farming rice paddies requires collaboration with your neighbors, Talhelm tells The Salt. Self-reliance is dangerous.

Discovering Negative-Days with LLM Workflows | Spaceraccoon's Blog

https://spaceraccoon.dev/discovering-negative-days-llm-workflows/
With this little experiment, I validated a critical threat intelligence workflow - we need to be monitoring for open-source vulnerabilities before (or if ever) a CVE is published. Threat actors are 100% already doing this in some form to quickly weaponise and exploit open-source issues. To emphasise the point: This is already happening.

I miss thinking hard.

https://www.jernesto.com/articles/thinking_hard?ref=sidebar
“Vibe coding” satisfies the Builder. It feels great to see to pass from idea to reality in a fraction of a time that would take otherwise. But it has drastically cut the times I need to came up with creative solutions for technical problems. I know many people who are purely Builders, for them this era is the best thing that ever happened. But for me, something is missing.

gradient.horse

https://gradient.horse/
Honestly I just wanted to play around with gradients. But gradients without anything on the horizon lack something, so I added horses. Since I can't draw horses, now you can draw them. And watch them parade across the screen alongside horses drawn by people you probably wouldn't like. Or maybe you would, how should I know?!

Programming is Dead

https://hamptonmakes.com/blog/2026/02/06/programming-is-dead.html
I’ve heard so many engineers say “Oh, I dabble but I just don’t think AI can do it well” are just in absolute denial at this point. Yes, AI can do a terrible job right now if you don’t wield it properly. The loom can make a mess of things if it’s improperly used. But, this is the worst these tools will ever be. They will only get better.

Server-Sent Events Beat WebSockets for 95% of Real-Time Apps (Here's Why) - DEV Community

https://dev.to/polliog/server-sent-events-beat-websockets-for-95-of-real-time-apps-heres-why-a4l?context=digest
Everyone defaults to WebSockets for real-time features. Most shouldn't. The reality: 95% of "real-time" applications only need server → client updates. Chat notifications. Live dashboards. Stock tickers. Log streams. AI responses. WebSockets give you bidirectional communication. But bidirectional comes with a tax: complexity, resource overhead, scaling challenges, debugging nightmares. Server-Sent Events (SSE) do one thing: stream data from server to client. They do it brilliantly. And for most applications, that's all you need.

Latent Space Engineering

https://blog.fsck.com/2026/01/30/Latent-Space-Engineering/
I think the upshot of all of this is that there is a lot of value to actively managing your agents' vibes and feelings, not just treating them as text-generation robots. The models aren't alive, but thinking of them as having feelings, rather than just next-token-prediction engines can help you nudge their mental states into a better place. I think you'll like the results.

Speedrunning Agentic Software Engineering Management

https://blog.fsck.com/2026/02/03/managing-agents/
By my very uncharitable math, agentic software engineering methodologies have gotten to somewhere around the 1970s. Like everything in AI, this is, of course, a speed run. We're very quickly relearning why software engineering management and software engineering project management matter. So by next Tuesday, maybe folks will start thinking about what they can steal from XP.

No. You can't tell it was written by AI

https://segunfamisa.com/posts/no-you-cant-tell-it-was-written-by-ai#fn:5
First, they made us learn English. Then we did it so well, that we started to use words that are uncommon to them. Then, they had us do the grunt work of training the AI models. Next, the AI models started sounding like us, and now we are being accused that we are cheating.

I'm Kenyan. I Don't Write Like ChatGPT. ChatGPT Writes Like Me.

https://marcusolang.substack.com/p/im-kenyan-i-dont-write-like-chatgpt
Before you point your finger and cry "AI!", I ask you to pause. Consider the possibility that what you're seeing isn't a lack of humanity, but a form of humanity you haven't been trained to recognise. You might be looking at the result of a different education, a different history, a different standard. You might just be looking at a Kenyan, writing. And we’ve been doing it this way for a very long time.

AI and Trust - Schneier on Security

https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2023/12/ai-and-trust.html
A public model is a model built by the public for the public. It requires political accountability, not just market accountability. This means openness and transparency paired with a responsiveness to public demands. It should also be available for anyone to build on top of. This means universal access. And a foundation for a free market in AI innovations. This would be a counter-balance to corporate-owned AI. We can never make AI into our friends. But we can make them into trustworthy services—agents and not double agents. But only if government mandates it. We can put limits on surveillance capitalism. But only if government mandates it.

Turns Out They Didn’t Really Want You To Bring Your Whole Self To Work | Techdirt

https://www.techdirt.com/2026/02/03/turns-out-they-didnt-really-want-you-to-bring-your-whole-self-to-work/
So no, they didn’t really want you to bring your whole self to work. They wanted you to bring the parts that were useful to them, for exactly as long as it was useful to them. The “whole self” thing was just the price of admission in a seller’s market. Now that it’s a buyer’s market, they’d prefer you just shut up and (use AI to write) code. The irony is that employees who actually believe in what they’re building tend to build better things. These executives may have just taught an entire generation of workers that the relationship is purely transactional. When the labor market tightens again—and it will—they might find that lesson stuck.

Defeating a 40-year-old copy protection dongle – Dmitry Brant

https://dmitrybrant.com/2026/02/01/defeating-a-40-year-old-copy-protection-dongle
That’s right — this little device is what stood between me and the ability to run an even older piece of software that I recently unearthed during an expedition of software archaeology. For a bit more background, I was recently involved in helping a friend’s accounting firm to move away from using an extremely legacy software package that they had locked themselves into using for the last four decades.
