Will changing your Facebook profile picture do anything for marriage equality? | PsySociety, Scientific American Blog Network

So, no. The fact that you’ve replaced that picture of yourself mugging for the camera with a red square and an equal sign will not cause Justice Kennedy to bang his gavel or stomp his foot and say that he’s come to a final decision on the matter, and that it’s all because of your new profile picture. Changing your Facebook image will not have a direct impact on our legislation. But a widespread descriptive norm implying that it is socially acceptable to advocate for same-sex marriage and that most people in contemporary American society seem to be pro-marriage-equality? Now that just might.

Overview | MCP230xx GPIO Expander on the Raspberry Pi | Adafruit Learning System

While the Raspberry Pi packs and awful lot of punch for the price, and it's fairly flexible where HW expandability is concerned, there are situations where you might want a bit more basic digital IO. Thankfully, it's an easy problem to solve with an I2C-enabled device like the MCP23008 (for an extra 8 GPIO pins) or the MCP23017 (for an extra 16 GPIO pins). This tutorial will show you how you can get up and running quickly with either of these chips.

Nothing To Do With Arbroath: Seven-year-old boy's armpit farting act deemed inappropriate for school talent show

http://arbroath.blogspot.com/2013/03/seven-year-old-boys-armpit-farting-act.html
"I got a call from the principal yesterday morning. She informed me that bodily noises were inappropriate and would not be acceptable in the talent show. Everybody takes things so serious. We're talking about a seven-year-old and armpit farts. There could be so many other worse things, and I don't agree with her decision, and I think I have hundreds and hundreds of people that stand behind the way I think," she said.

Single source publishing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Single source publishing, also known as single sourcing, allows the same content to be used in different documents (deliverables) or in various formats. The labour-intensive and expensive work of editing need only be carried out once, on one document. Further transformations are carried out mechanistically, by automated tools. You may also add new output formats in the future, as your organization's needs change.

Backup your Linux system to Dropbox | Personal website of Dave Hope

http://davehope.co.uk/Blog/backup-your-linux-vps-to-dropbox/
As an adovate of Dropbox I’ve been keen to find a simple way to backup by webserver/VPS to Dropbox. With up to 10gB of storage space for free there’s plenty of capacity for me to backup some MySQL databases and webroot. Unfortunately the Linux command line dropbox client doesn’t provide any way to synchronise a specific directory.

If you are unlucky enough to have your computer infected with a RAT, prepare to be sold or traded to the kind of person who enters forums to ask, "Can I get some slaves for my rat please? I got 2 bucks lol I will give it to you :b" At that point, the indignities you will suffer—and the horrific website images you may see—will be limited only by the imagination of that most terrifying person: a 14-year-old boy with an unsupervised Internet connection.

Horseplay « meandering wildly

So last week we bought them their own horse head. And yesterday mconley delivered it to their office. They invited him in. They brought the box over to the window where we could see. They gathered around their window and we gathered around ours. And when they opened it and realised what it was they actually jumped up and down, and applauded, and mouthed “thank you” through the window at us.

What happened to Orson Scott Card? - Salon.com

http://www.salon.com/2013/03/07/end_game_for_orson_scott_card_partner/
What I cannot quite wrap my mind around is how the mind which wrote such a beautiful meditation on empathy can be the same one that argues for the violent overthrow of the American government because of its failure to ban gay marriage and to outlaw homosexuality generally.

The missing APIs must be added to the web platform in order to enable the billions of new mobile users who will be coming online in the next few years to have affordable web-based phones, tablets, and apps. Emerging market consumers and developers generally cannot afford increasingly higher-end, native-app-advantaged smartphones from the two bigs.

Kitbashing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitbashing
Kitbashing or model bashing is a practice whereby a new scale model is created by taking pieces out of commercial kits. These pieces may be added to a custom project or to another kit. For professional modelmakers, kitbashing is popular to create concept models for detailing movie special effects. Commercial model kits are a ready source of "detailing", providing any amounts of identical, mass-produced components that can be used to add fine detail to an existing model. Professionals often kitbash to build prototype parts which are then recreated with lightweight materials.[1]

The AR-15 Is More Than a Gun. It's a Gadget | Danger Room | Wired.com

http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2013/02/ar-15/all/
In the past two decades, the AR-15 has evolved into an open, modular gun platform that’s infinitely hackable and accessorizable. With only a few simple tools and no gunsmithing expertise, an AR-15 can be heavily modified, or even assembled from scratch, from widely available parts to suit the fancy and fantasy of each individual user. In this respect, the AR-15 is the world’s first “maker” gun, and this is why its appeal extends well beyond the military enthusiasts that many anti-gun types presume make up its core demographic.

Nothing To Do With Arbroath: Man faces jail for romantic releasing of heart-shaped helium-filled balloons

http://arbroath.blogspot.com/2013/02/man-faces-jail-for-romantic-releasing.html
Love was in the air for Anthony Brasfield when he released a dozen heart-shaped balloons into the sky over Dania Beach, Florida, with his sweetheart. Brasfield, 40, and his girlfriend, Shaquina Baxter, were in the parking lot of the Motel 6 on Dania Beach Boulevard when he released the shiny red and silver balloons and watched them float away on Sunday morning. Also watching the romantic gesture was a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, who instead noted probable cause for an environmental crime. Endangered marine turtle species and birds, such as wood storks and brown pelicans, seek refuge in John U. Lloyd State Park, about 1.5 miles east of the motel. Brasfield was charged with polluting to harm humans, animals, plants, etc. under the Florida Air and Water Pollution Control Act. The third-degree felony is punishable by up to five years in prison.

What if the private pursuit of profit was—for a long time—proximate to improving the lot of humans but not identical to it? What if capitalism has gone feral, and started making moves that are obviously insane, but also inevitable?
