Sega-16 – Unofficial Shmups Glossary

http://www.sega-16.com/2005/04/unofficial-shmups-glossary/
Bulletmagnet from the Shmups forum has compiled this awesome glossary of shmup terms, which is great for those just getting into the genre, as well as those with questions about what certain terms mean or are called. Some terms were also taken from the Shooter Lingo section of the now-defunct shmup site Starbase299.

Tesla’s Solid Metal Snake Will Have Sex with Your Car to Charge It | Nerdist

On the last day of last year, Elon Musk tweeted this: Btw, we are actually working on a charger that automatically moves out from the wall & connects like a solid metal snake. For realz. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 31, 2014 For realz y’all. Now, just 8 months later, Tesla Motors tweets this: Charger prototype finding its way to Model S. https://t.co/L9E4MR642G — Tesla Motors (@TeslaMotors) August 6, 2015 Totes realz. Tesla looks like it will indeed deliver an automated snake charger that Teslas will charge with once you park your car in the garage. It’s a fascinating and undeniably cool concept that just also happens to look totally like robot sex in real life. So, watch it plug in over and over again? Awww yeah. I feel like this is NSFWIYAAR (not suitable for work if you are a robot), but I can’t look away. Creepiness aside, the tech on display here is impressive. Both the snake and the car have to first know that they are in range of each other, the car has to open its charging port, and then the snake has to utilize some kind of three dimensional data and dozens of motors to carefully articulate itself into the port. See? That doesn’t sound so NSFWIYAAR…right?

The Moon crossing the sunlit face of the Earth

http://kottke.org/15/08/the-moon-crossing-the-sunlit-face-of-the-earth
This is just flat-out incredible... NASA's Deep Space Climate Observatory satellite captured a series of photos of the Moon as it moved between it and the Earth. The image shows the "dark side" of the Moon, which we can't see from Earth because it's always pointed away from us. The lunar far side lacks the large, dark, basaltic plains, or maria, that are so prominent on the Earth-facing side. The largest far side features are Mare Moscoviense in the upper left and Tsiolkovskiy crater in the lower left. A thin sliver of shadowed area of moon is visible on its right side. "It is surprising how much brighter Earth is than the moon," said Adam Szabo, DSCOVR project scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. "Our planet is a truly brilliant object in dark space compared to the lunar surface." I don't know why, but this image gives me chills up my spine! Is anyone else freaking out about this?
