Discovering the indieweb with calm tech

https://alexsci.com/blog/calm-tech-discover/
I reject the dead Internet theory: I see a vibrant Internet full of humans sharing their experiences and seeking connection. Degradation of the engagement-driven web is well underway, accelerated by AI slop. But the independent web works on a different incentive structure and is resistant to this effect. Humans inherently create, connect, and share: we always have and we always will. If you choose software that works in your interest you’ll find that it’s possible to make meaningful online connections without mental hazard.

console - Mozilla | MDN

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/SDK/Tools/console#Logging_Levels
The logging level defaults to "error". extensions.sdk.console.logLevel: if set, this determines the logging level for all installed SDK-based add-ons. This includes add-ons being developed using the Extension Auto-installer.

Solving Firefox’s add-on compatibility problem « Blair’s Brain

http://theunfocused.net/2011/11/19/solving-firefoxs-add-on-compatibility-problem
This makes me sad. And it's a problem that's been magnified by the switch to rapid release. One of the strengths of Firefox is it's rich selection of add-ons. In fact, 85% of Firefox users have chosen to install an add-on. On average, those users have 5 add-ons installed. Firefox users really love their add-ons. So it's not surprising that they get frustrated when one of their favorite add-ons gets disabled because it's not marked as being compatible with the new Firefox update they just installed. So I started working on a project to fix it. The end result will be that most add-ons will automatically be compatible with Firefox, starting with (hopefully) Firefox 10.

Bootstrapped extensions - MDC Doc Center

https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Extensions/Bootstrapped_extensions
Traditional extensions include overlays, wherein the application can load up XUL from the extension's package and automatically apply it atop its own UI. While this makes creating extensions that add to the application's user interface relatively easy, it means that updating, installing, or disabling an extension requires an application restart.

World of Warcraft - Beating the RNG Boss

"One of the hardest bosses to fight is the RNG, or Random Number Generator. While the tactics are fairly straight forward (try, try, try again), defeating this boss can take a lot of patience. Lots of players don't understand quite how this boss fight works, so i'll attempt to explain. A few months back, I created a World of Warcraft addon called BunnyHunter, to help you track your progress when farming for rare pets."

Mozilla Add-ons Blog

"Starting today, visitors to the add-ons website will see a brand new look with collections of add-ons front and center. We’ve integrated collections throughout the site, and created a Collection Directory that showcases all of the add-on lists created by our users."

hackademix.net » Dear Adblock Plus and NoScript Users, Dear Mozilla Community

http://hackademix.net/2009/05/04/dear-adblock-plus-and-noscript-users-dear-mozilla-community
"I abused the power and wasted the enormous trust capital gained by the NoScript add-on through the years to prevent Adblock Plus from blocking stuff on four internet domains of mine, without asking an explicit preemptive user consent." The rest of the blog entry is basically sorry-but-not-really.

Bejeweled add-on coming to World of Warcraft - Joystiq

Seems somewhat sad when the game needs a game within the game to keep things fun, but kudos to PopCap for not firing the lawyer guns. "Fromwiller developed the add-on as a method of killing time during long raids and farming sessions, but it wasn't too long before PopCap caught wind of the MMO mini-game. Instead of issuing a timely cease and desist, the casual gaming colossus hired Fromwiller to create a more polished version of the application."
