I’ve been interested in standing desks for a while. I keep reading things like: he who sits the most dies the soonest. All the options online are expensive. Until now. Ryan of Opani, our deskmate who does amazing big data analytics and I combined our brains to see if we could come up with a better solution:

Constructed of aluminum, steel, molded furniture-grade plywood and polymers. The seat can comfortably accommodate a person ranging in height from 4’11″ to 6’8″ and up to 300 lbs. Range of seat motion laterally is 15º. Fore-aft motion ranges from 5º to 20º forward. Available with a choice of either an American walnut or white oak base and a choice of three colors for the EVA seat cushion. Upgrades include a nubuck seat cushion and an anti-fatigue mat. The seat is sourced globally and assembled in Rhode Island. See Product Guide for a complete list of materials.

We were charmed to the core over this ingenious book storage idea. Yes, these are just planks of painted plywood nailed to the supports for the loft above. They create perfect cubby spaces to store books, baskets and even small lights. Since we're in California, it would probably be a good idea to secure everything in place so it doesn't shake right off.

This is something really innovative in the bookshelves business, and I really like the idea. It’s very practical because you can arrange the books in an interesting way, as you can see from these pictures. The shelves are made of tough and steady cherry wood, but they possess the lightness of rice paper: they can be laid down, stood up, turned 90 degrees, used horizontally or verticall

Today I’ve found a bookcase that catch my eye, because it is not usual, and in general things that are different catch our eyes. As you can see from these pictures a whole wall was used for this interesting bookcase, and the final result is a quite interesting bookcase, at least from my perspective

"Yu-Ying Wu, a graduate student in industrial design at a Taiwanese university, created a foam block that turns into a chair when compressed. The holes in the block aren’t random — they’re carefully shaped and selected to fold into a specific pattern when the user sits on the chair"

"Although we don't claim to understand it, a cat that has installed itself in a cardboard box is a happy cat. You can exploit this mysterious fact to make a your own simple corrugated cardboard cat bed like this one, designed as a kitty-sized chaise lounge. Since it's just cardboard, it's also easy to modify this basic design to suit your own (or your cat's) taste. "

"A network of lightweight interfaces has been stuck to my back for the past few weeks, receiving information about the slightest movement of my spine. My new Herman Miller Embody chair is like an exoskeleton, supplementing my body's own structural integrity. While I sit and blog about our future space exploration, it's awesome to have a high-tech command chair. Click through for chair spoilers."

"I have always wanted to build a concealed room or have secret trapdoors or similar in a house, well this is my first (very amateur) attempt."

"The stairs bookcase was cool, but this is an entire igloo-like bookcase structure that you can actually use as a miniature dwelling."

"I created several designs and eventually hit upon the idea of using a Han in carbonite as the top of an combination desk and art piece. "

"Sketch Furniture, aka Furniture Made With Frickin' Lasers. Swedish designers use motion capture technology to draw chairs and tables with light in mid-air. Their sketches are then built out of plastic by a laser into real pieces of furniture."

"Modern Murphy Beds Brought to America from Europe "

"We decided to rescue these books from that awful fate - and what better use for them than a bar from which to entertain our frequent guests?"

"But then I also realise it'd be a small price to pay to see my wife so happy *and* get some cool furniture in the bargain..."

"The Russell Executive Mesh Chair is the Aeron for people on a budget."

Now, if this had two arms for dual iMacs, this would be a perfect loveseat for The Girl and I.

Mmm, soft & tasty.

I want this.
