Can we do the thing people do when fictional history is made and pretend that the games from UFO 50 were our childhood games? : r/ufo50

https://www.reddit.com/r/ufo50/comments/1fp3h81/can_we_do_the_thing_people_do_when_fictional/
I grew up in the 2000s, around the mid 2010s I discovered emulators and started playing a bunch of LX games. I remember playing some of them for hours at a time. Now the collection is out and I'm replaying them all. UFOsoft really just knew what they were doing

Seven Rules For Internet CEOs To Avoid Enshittification | Techdirt

https://www.techdirt.com/2023/06/21/seven-rules-for-internet-ceos-to-avoid-enshittification/
Anyway, I’d like to posit seven basic rules for any internet CEO looking to avoid the enshittification death cycle. Think of these as the rules that Steve Huffman maybe should have learned years ago, rather than whatever the fuck he’s doing now.

Short logic (Reddit’s crappy ultimatum to remote workers and offices)

http://shortlogic.tumblr.com/post/99014759324/reddits-crappy-ultimatum
It’s hard not to get worked up about something that seems so unfair and so shitty to the people who did their part to get Reddit to where they are today. It feels like using people in the worst possible way. It smells like hopeless inadequacy to subject your workers to such a huge life change based on such flimsy justification.

After my 4th time coming back to eve (since 2009) this time I actually look forward to playing it. : Eve

http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/1gbypm/after_my_4th_time_coming_back_to_eve_since_2009/
After creating my character in 2009 and getting into mining I found eve dull and boring so I quit playing then picking it back up again then I'd get bored again...2 months ago I decided I'd get back into it once again but this time I would leave mining behind (except to make isk because my skills are fairly decent) I decided to pick up pvp...I found a nice, small corp in Pizza who are extremely helpful and friendly and now I'm hooked! I can't believe I kept coming back to mining instead of trying something...well, fun! For all the new players here, dont lose interest after a couple of months, if you find the game boring try a different career path, I guarantee there will be something you enjoy about the game! submitted by Anonymoose9311 to Eve[link] [19 comments]

Does anyone else share my strange space hobby because I don't want to feel alone : Eve

http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/1gfcix/does_anyone_else_share_my_strange_space_hobby/
Hi friends I regularly put the minimum bounty amount (100k) on random people that I find in all parts of space. When they die I get a notification of them dying, and then I can go on eve-kill or whatever and see what they died in and who killed them and where. I see my duties similar to those of a wild life ranger - tagging animals in the wild to monitor their movements and social behaviors. I plan to keep my findings neatly organized in an excel document to be published in Nature. Anyone else do this because it's pretty neat submitted by Ohh_Yeah to Eve[link] [17 comments]

How Yahoo dropped the del.icio.us ball with a pointless 3 year rewrite (from mod_perl to PHP) : reddit.com

http://www.reddit.com/comments/6v4yw/how_yahoo_dropped_the_delicious_ball_with_a
I'm on pretty much the same page as Joshua. I was amazed it launched, which is a credit to the remaining team of heroes. It'll be interesting to see what happens now—given a 2-3 year innovation time-debt, a brand-new bespoke infrastructure, and a load of enqueued we'll-fix-it-laters. Selected joshu quotes: "I think the open question now is whether the remaining team will be able to innovate or be stuck in complicated codebase hell. ... I have significant regret over what ended up happening with Delicious. We could have gone so much farther. ... engineering was focused on the rewrite so nobody had time to replace the old search engine ... They had the technology, but the relevant staff had higher priorities."
