https://crates.io/crates/ratatui
Ratatui (ˌræ.təˈtu.i) is a Rust crate for cooking up terminal user interfaces (TUIs). It provides a simple and flexible way to create text-based user interfaces in the terminal, which can be used for command-line applications, dashboards, and other interactive console programs.

A quote from Chris Lloyd

Most people's mental model of Claude Code is that "it's just a TUI" but it should really be closer to "a small game engine". For each frame our pipeline constructs a scene graph with React then: -> layout elements -> rasterize them to a 2d screen -> diff that against the previous screen -> finally use the diff to generate ANSI sequences to draw We have a ~16ms frame budget so we have roughly ~5ms to go from the React scene graph to ANSI written.

Announcing Toad - a universal UI for agentic coding in the terminal – Will McGugan – Will McGugan's essays

https://willmcgugan.github.io/announcing-toad/
I called it Textual Code originally, which became “Toad” (the same way as Hodor got his name). Although purely a UI prototype with mocked up API interactions, it was enough for me to confidently say this is how you build a terminal based AI coding agent. We can have a jank free interface that remains light-weight and snappy without giving up the interactions we have all committed to muscle memory.
