There’s a real technology here, somewhere. Stochastic pattern recognition seems like a powerful tool for solving some problems. But solving a problem starts at the problem, not working backwards from the tools. And in a world where an informed people are essential to a functioning democracy, a tool for generating completely averacitous media, stochastic approximations of something vaguely fact-shaped, might should make us think carefully about what problem, exactly, we’re claiming to solve.
