I don’t know where a lot of those concerned about remote working have been for the past 30–40 years. Remote working and remote brainstorming was aggressive back in the late 20th century 1980s and 1990s, with conference calls, and of course we have had virtual “white boards” for at least 20 years that I can easily recall. Finally, making remote work as a routine mainstream activity in 2020 is about “revolutionary” as those finally ending their reliance on dial-up modems or thermal paper fax machines. Yes it is change, but it is also long overdue change. Depending on a physical office for productivity and creativity is something from the 1960s, like bell bottom jeans. There is no doubt there is value to it, and many still also like 1960s fashion too, but the idea you need to physically “look in the eyes” of a coworker for creative brainstorming is a really “old-fashioned” concept. Hopefully, we can communicate as human beings, in more sophisticated and multi-layer means at this point in the 21st century.
