Is it just me, or is it weird that every terminal starts at the top-left? After three commands, your prompt stays at the bottom of the screen for the rest of the session anyway.

Tags: #admin #hacks #shell

CLI all the things: Introducing Josh.js - ILoggable

Everytime I click my way through a hierarchy tree, I long for a simple BASH shell with TAB completion. It’s such a simple thing, but TAB completion (usually implemented via the trusty Readline library) still ranks as one of the most productive tools in my book. So as I was once again trying to navigate to some page in a MindTouch site, I thought that all I really want is to treat this documentation hierarchy like a file system and mount it with a bash shell.

Tags: #imported:pinboard #javascript #shell #shells #webdev

The Text Triumvirate

This post aims to provide an overview of how to create a highly functional and easy to configure Text Triumvirate for those new to this tool chain. I try to focus on aspects of how to integrate zsh, vim, and tmux with particular focus on my experiences with two common problems—copy/paste functionality and color aesthetics.

Tags: #commandline #dev #imported:pinboard #shell #tips #tmux #vim #zsh

Introduction to text manipulation on UNIX-based systems

This introduction to text manipulation on UNIX platforms provides an overview of some common commands widely available and installed standard on most UNIX-based releases. Many times these standard utilities are ignored in favor of more modern text-processors such as Perl, Python, or Ruby, which are not always installed on a system. An introductory review of these tools helps practitioners who are learning UNIX or Linux or those who may be looking to renew forgotten knowledge.

Tags: #imported:pinboard #shell #text #tips #unix #utils

conque - Project Hosting on Google Code

"Conque is a Vim plugin allowing users to execute and interact with programs, typically a shell such as bash, inside a buffer window. The goal is always to keep the terminal behaviour as close as possible to its native interface, while adding the additional features of Vim on top. "

Tags: #conque #editor #python #shell #terminal #utils #vim
