Controlling your home with tiny, cheap touchscreens

This turned out really well and was a cheap solution to my problems (it cost me about$16 but it currently shows me $21 for a screen). In the weeks since I set it up, it's been so useful for everyone else in the house that I'm considering buying one for the kitchen to control all the living room lights without anyone having to take their phones out, and another one in my barn to turn all the lights on whenever I walk in (currently I always fire up the Apple Home app and run a shortcut to turn on the 6 different light switches).

Tags: #diy #esp32 #hardware #homeassistant #iot

The goal of the project was to turn on a light in the living room any time a cat is detected in the drop ceiling alcove.

Tags: #cat #homeassistant #iot #video

Model Context Protocol Server - Home Assistant

The Model Context Protocol is an open protocol that standardizes how applications provide context to LLMs. The Model Context Protocol Server (MCP) integration enables using Home Assistant to provide context for MCP LLM Client Applications. For example, you can control your lights from Claude Desktop

Tags: #ai #homeassistant #iot #llms #mcp #smarthome

SS4H-LumiHex ESP32 Smart Panels – Open-Source RGB Hexagon System for Next-Level Ambient Lighting – Smart Solutions for Home

In this article, I’ll show you how I built my own version of modular RGB lights. Not only do they look great, but they also have Wi-Fi, so you can hook them up to any open “smart” system – Home Assistant in my case.

Tags: #diy #gadgets #homeassistant #lights #rgb

Setting up a Mastodon RSS Bot with Home Assistant – George Hotelling

Then I realized Home Assistant has all the parts I need. Specifically it has an RSS integration called Feedreader and a notification integration for Mastodon. All that I needed to do was configure them, per their docs, and create an automation to post new RSS items. Here’s the automation I initially came up with:

Tags: #homeassistant #imported:pinboard #mastodon
