Save For Web claws – Unsung

For context, Save For Web was a popular export function in Photoshop at the peak of its use for web design, but assigned a rather unpleasant ⌘⌥⇧S shortcut. Using it often turned your hand into a… claw of sorts.

Tags: #design #photoshop #webdev

LEGO's 0.002mm Specification and It's Implications for Manufacturing - Productivity - The Wave

LEGO demonstrates that micron-level precision is achievable in mass production, but only if the entire system - material, mold, process, quality control - is designed around that requirement from day one. The lesson isn't that everyone should match LEGO's tolerances. It's to understand what your product actually requires, then build your manufacturing system to deliver that at the scale and cost your business model demands. Define what precision truly matters for your customers, and then build your system to deliver it, every single time.

Tags: #design #lego #manufacturing #product

Introduction - Neobrutalism components

Neobrutalism is a mix of regular brutalism in web design and more modern typography, illustration, and animation standards. Neobrutalism refuses the usual components of UX-UI design and embraces uncomfortable design elements, and it is more fearless to use distinctive color palettes.

Tags: #css #design #webdev

Your App Subscription Is Now My Weekend Project · Roberto Selbach

I’m still skeptical of vibecoding in general. As I mentioned above, I would not trust my vibecoding enough to make these into products. If something goes wrong, I don’t know how to fix it. Maybe my LLM friends can, but I don’t know. But vibecoding is 100% viable for personal stuff like this: we now have apps on demand.

Tags: #ai #codegen #design #llms #products #vibecoding

Why Designers Can No Longer Trust the Design Process - YouTube

For years, designers have been told to trust the process.
Research first. Personas. Journey maps. Problem statements. Then solutions.

In this talk from Hatch Conference, Jenny Wen, Design Lead at Anthropic and former Director of Design at Figma, explains why that model no longer fits the reality of modern design work.

Tags: #ai #anthropic #claude #design #llms

Humanizing AI Is a Trap - NN/G

Artificial intelligence can improve user experiences and solve problems without being human-like. Modern LLMs are naturally humanizing technologies because of their training, but organizations should recognize this trait and avoid emphasizing it through extra design choices. Even practitioners without control over base models can focus on system prompts that reduce sycophancy, evaluation criteria that prioritize accuracy over engagement, and interface decisions that emphasize usefulness over artificial friendship. Teams should create AI as practical tools, focusing on usability and utility rather than artificial personalities.

Tags: #ai #design #genai #llms #ux

The struggle of resizing windows on macOS Tahoe – no.heger

So in the end, the most reliable way to resize a window in Tahoe is to grab it outside the corner – a gesture that feels unnatural and unintuitive, and is therefore inevitably error-prone.

Tags: #apple #design #macos #tahoe #ui

Telepath: building a new kind of computer - unique hazards may exist

That’s the mission of my new startup, Telepath. We’re building that metaphorical EV: the software stack for a new kind of computing experience, freed from decades of accrued assumptions, powered at its core by machine intelligence but employed in the service of individuals. We aren’t really an “AI company”, and we aren’t chasing AGI. We see AI as normal technology, but one that carries an unusual level of both promise and peril. Used wisely and responsibly, this technology has the potential to elevate our computers and unlock a revolution even greater and more exciting than the move from CLI to GUI forty years ago.

Tags: #ai #computing #design #genai #llms #ui #ux

Durable Consumables - Travers Nisbet

The frontier keeps moving. Progress keeps accelerating. The rational response is shorter time horizons, faster replacement cycles, less investment in permanence. I understand the logic. I just wonder what we lose when fewer objects around us are built with the assumption that they'll still be here, still working, still ours, decades from now.

Tags: #design #economy #future #tech

And Stay Out

There’s no doubt Jony has good taste, by the way. He and his team designed great products during the first half of his tenure at Apple. But as he became wealthier, he started to conflate good taste with luxury. Jony often described Apple products with words about craft, material, and precision, all things that appeal to a luxury market. Apple shifted away from making products “for the rest of us” and started making products that appealed specifically to rich people

Tags: #apple #design

1. Introduction to Rivulet / Jo Wood | Observable

Rivulet is an esolang ('esoteric language') written by Daniel Temkin that uses gylphs to represent programming instructions. While it would not be a practical basis for most programming tasks, it does represent an interesting space between text-encoded programming languages and graphically encoded data visualization. As a language it invites careful thought about 'code layout', as its design offers much more flexibility in visual form than most languages. It encourages us to consider the role that design choices and aesthetics play in helping construct visual schemata. It challenges notions of 'efficiency' in the construction and interpretation of computer code, much like the Atypography movement does with text.

Tags: #design #programming #rivulet
