Fixing E.T. for the Atari 2600

It turns out that E.T. isn't a bad game after all. With a few simple changes we were able to dramatically improve an already good game by eliminating the most common complaints. With a few additional changes, we were able to clear up any confusion for players who care about the score, and were confused by the differences between what the manual claims and what actually happens in-game. Next time someone tells you that "E.T. for the Atari 2600 is the worst game ever made" you can tell them that this is not the case. It's been fixed, and you know how.

Tags: #2600 #asm #atari #atari2600 #et #gaming #imported:pinboard #retro

Why Haunted House for the Atari 2600 so Great? | The Retroist

As I sat upon the creaky wooden steps, I felt as though my grip on sanity was beginning to loosen. My breaths came in rapid, gasping spurts, and my heart was beating with such ferocity, I felt for certain it would leap from my chest and fall to the unforgiving floor where it would flop to and fro like a great crimson fish. My skin was slick with a veneer of cool, clammy sweat, and my hands, which held the source of my terror, shook a bit as I read each cursed word inscribed in that hellish tome. Why did I ever allow my curiosity concerning the priceless urn of the Graves Mansion get the better of me?

Tags: #atari2600 #gaming #hauntedmansion #retro

"; My intent in overhauling this classic disassembly is to finish it ; so that the purpose of every instruction, memory location, and ; table is made completely clear. "

Tags: #6502 #asm #atari #atari2600 #awesome #combat #gaming #stella

Laughing Squid ? Adventure

"I literally spent days playing this one, which is pretty amazing to think of, considering how basic it seems now."

Tags: #adventure #atari2600 #gaming #oldschool

"I recently came across these awesome 1982 video demos of Pitfall, Berzerk and Venture, three classic Atari 2600 games that I spent an absurd amount of time playing in the early 80’s."

Tags: #atari2600 #gaming #oldschool

bits bytes pixels & sprites ‽ Wolfenstein for the Atari 2600… Yes, you read that right

"Iwolfen-3.pngt’s a fun game, and holds up very well next to “professionally” made carts from back in the day. It’s also suprisingly deep, with different weapons complete with ammo, and numerous enemies to run from and kill."

Tags: #atari2600 #gaming #nifty #wolfenstein
