A Max Headroom in Every Terminal!

I took my favorite video loop of Max, and extracted the frames. Then I converted each frame to ascii, and wrote the whole thing to a big array. The script just iterates through the array and prints each frame. There are no external dependencies - it is all just one big file with the data in-line.

Tags: #ascii #maxheadroom #nifty #node #video

Diabaig by conornally

Diabaig is a traditional turn-based ASCII roguelike where you are never more than a few mistakes away from death. Choose a starting class, find powerful items, and learn new spells and techniques to face increasingly dangerous adversity. You will discover many floors with rooms filled with unique creatures, magic scrolls, unknown potions and mighty weapons. Use everything at your disposal to survive as long as possible and defeat the dragon, but remember to keep enough spare for the return journey.

Tags: #ascii #games #gaming #rogue #roguelike #rpg

GlyphDrawing.Club -blog

In my thesis, I study Amiga ASCII text art. Amiga ASCII is a form of text art where the composition of letter characters set in the Amiga computer's font forms a two-dimensional representation or image. The Amiga scene is a subculture of computer enthusiasts that was popular in the 1990s. At its core are the logos and other visual materials created for BBS systems and the competitive rivalry among artists who create text art over their image-making prowess.

Tags: #amiga #art #ascii #bbs #retro

Why is there a "small house" in IBM's Code page 437? - GlyphDrawing.Club -blog

There's a small house ( ⌂ ) in the middle of IBM's infamous character set Code Page 437. "Small house"—that's the official IBM name given to the glyph at code position 0x7F, where a control character for "Delete" (DEL) should logically exist. It's cute, but a little strange. I wonder, how did it get there? Why did IBM represent DEL as a house, of all things?

Tags: #ascii #fonts #history #retro #unicode
