Add a Solid State Hard Drive to Your Amiga 600 or 1200 Using a Compact Flash Card with IDE Adapter (30-60 mins) – Retro Projects

I recently purchased an Amiga 1200 which has hard drive support through an internal IDE connector. Adding a hard drive is appealing since booting from floppy disk or a Gotek floppy drive emulator can be quite tedious and slow. The good news is that there are solid state options using compact flash (CF) or secure digital (SD) card solutions through an IDE adapter. I went with a CF card adapter that I purchased for less than $30 from AmiKit on eBay. This is shown below inserted into the IDE slot on my 1200.

Tags: #amiga #retro #retrocomputing

The Amiga was designed during the aforementioned “MB” days. It was generally conceived that there was not going to be any affordable storage medium higher than 4GB in size. If 4GB was all the space I wanted, I wouldn’t be writing this post in the first place.

Tags: #amiga #retro #retrocomputing #storage

GlyphDrawing.Club -blog

In my thesis, I study Amiga ASCII text art. Amiga ASCII is a form of text art where the composition of letter characters set in the Amiga computer's font forms a two-dimensional representation or image. The Amiga scene is a subculture of computer enthusiasts that was popular in the 1990s. At its core are the logos and other visual materials created for BBS systems and the competitive rivalry among artists who create text art over their image-making prowess.

Tags: #amiga #art #ascii #bbs #retro

Deluxe Paint on the Commodore Amiga

VisiCalc on the Apple II. Lotus 1-2-3 on the IBM PC. Aldus PageMaker on the Macintosh. Deluxe Paint on the Amiga. The computer industry loves a “killer app,” that unique piece of software that compels consumers to purchase new computer hardware just for the privilege of running it. I can personally attest to Deluxe Paint as it compelled even my technophobic mother to buy into its potential.

Tags: #amiga #deluxepaint #retro #software

BRA and KET: String Interpolation in AmigaDOS | datagubbe.se

By default, the parser does string interpolation using the characters < (less than) and > (greater than). The cleverness of this is debatable: these characters are also used for I/O redirection, which can quickly make things confusing. Luckily, the parser also accepts the directives .BRA and .KET, each followed by a single character, which lets the programmer override the default interpolation characters. The terms BRA and KET are most likely borrowed from Dirac notation.

Tags: #amiga #commodore #retro #scripting

Still, there are setups and there are setups. Having recently visited the Swedish Amiga demo party GERP, I had the opportunity to photograph a worthy contender to - and, to me, current holder of - the throne. Without further ado, let's examine!

Tags: #amiga #commodore #demoscene
